Late Kick Off - BBC1

PSR

Geoff Thomas
There's a new football programme on BBC 1 at 11:35 this evening called "Late Kick Off".

Not knowing a lot about it but over the coming weeks it will be covering half an hour of one team every Monday in the Championship.

Guess who's up first tonight.................................No, not us but the Shaggers - so tonight it starts off with a comedy half hour.

If you do happen to miss it - you can catch up on your PC on the BBC iPlayer.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/

Enjoy.

I believe it's a regional program so I will have the joys of Colchester v Norwich, as I live just on the border of Anglia TV

Apparently Robin Chipperfield mentioned this was going to be on during the show on Radio Nottingham, saying...

"The first show will be focusing on the problems currently affecting Derby County Football Club, it's a half an hour show so they'll barely scratch the surface but I'm sure it will be an entertaining watch!"

Good idea, pity for the far-flung fans in different TV regions, though.

Can't understand that because they did say it was a round up of all the Championship teams.

Anyway we will see.

Who's they? Everything I've heard about this has suggested it will be regional.

I know Cheltenham and Hereford aren't really 'local' to us, but it's safe to assume it is a regional programme.

Re: Don't Forget.....................

As I live in the worst footballing part of the country (apart from Derbyshire), gloucestershire, I have the joys of looking forward to:

Cheltenham
Yeovil
Swindon
Bristol rovers
Bristol city (ok, they are alright)
forest green rovers
bath city
Chippenham town
gloucester city.

All these produce an average crowd of about 1,000 so shall make "interesting" viewing

Re: Don't Forget.....................

Yeah I've heard that it's a regional programme too (there wouldn't be much point to it otherwise - surely that would just make it The Football League Show 2?)... Great shout about Channel 980 by the way (for us poor saps who live in Dover and have to make 400-mile round trips* for every home game GRRR).

*Forest are worth it.

The preview I saw said that Cheltenham were in the Midlands region.

And I don't think Gloucester City, Forest Green Rovers, Bath City or Chippenham Town will be on it. I might be wrong, but I think it will just cover Football League clubs.

Re: Don't Forget.....................

Yeah it's regional.

The regions are: North West, North East and Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, West and East Midlands, the East, London and South East, and the South and South West.

The programme, aired on BBC local services in each region, will feature match highlights from non-Premiership clubs, along with "in-depth coverage" from behind the scenes.

BBC Match Of The Day commentator Guy Mowbray will front the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire version, with coverage from 12 teams - Chesterfield, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Bradford City, Grimsby Town, Scunthorpe United and Lincoln City.

The Midlands edition will be fronted by BBC Football League Show presenter Manish Bhasin and feature action from Burton, Cheltenham, Chesterfield, Coventry, Derby, Hereford, Leicester, Lincoln, Notts County, Nottingham Forest, Port Vale, Shrewsbury, Walsall and West Bromwich Albion.

Bhasin, who will be joined in the studio by Derby midfielder Robbie Savage and former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers, said: "It's always exciting to be part of something that is completely new and its good news for Football League fans who'll get to see more of their local teams on television but in a way they may not have seen before."

BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce will present the South and South West edition, with action from Aldershot, Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham, Exeter, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Swindon, Torquay, Wycombe and Yeovil.

Taking charge of the London and South East edition will be BBC Radio 5 Live sports presenter Mark Chapman, who will discuss events affecting Crystal Palace, QPR, Millwall, Charlton, Leyton Orient, Barnet, Watford, Brentford, Brighton, Gillingham, Dagenham & Redbridge and Wycombe.

North West Tonight host Tony Livesey will front the North West edition covering 11 teams, including Stockport County, Accrington Stanley, Macclesfield Town and Tranmere Rovers.

Morecombe manager Sammy McIlroy will join Livesey in the studio for the first programme, which will also feature never before seen pre-war footage of Stockport County.

Mark 'Clem' Clemmit will front the North East and Cumbria show, with action from five football league clubs across the region, including Newcastle United and Darlington. It will also feature regular news from Premier League club Sunderland.

Lincoln have two teams??

Lincoln City are in League Two, and I assume there is a Lincoln Utd or Lincoln FC... but how far down the non-league are they? And why is this other Lincoln team the only non-league team to be featured?? Any clues?

Re: Don't Forget.....................

And why is Chesterfield in two regions? They shouldn't really have it in 'Lincolnshire & Yorkshire' considering it's in Derbyshire.......

We're not Premiership yet, but they had better hurry up if they want to include Forest.
Suppose that's why the sheep are up first, for a very different reason..

Thank-you again Nigel

A Lincolnshire - Yorkshire, Premiership round-up would be a cheap programme to make. Perhaps Savage could front it?

It's all about where the transmitters are beased geographically and where the nucleus of people are.

From a BBC perspective you have East Midlands Today which covers Nottinghamshire, Derbys, Leics and Lincs. BBC Look North overlaps in to North Notts, North Derbys and North Lincs, but rarely covers anything north of York as that is covered by the North East version.

Cheltenham will be covered by two programmes, again because of the transmitters and where the nucleus of people are, but if you think that's confusing when I lived in Swindon you had a choice of picking up one of three ITV regional areas - Meridian for the South of England (Southampton, Reading, Swindon), Central TV South (Warwick, Swindon, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Oxford), and whatever the South West variation was (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Avon)!
