Yet more evidince of our clubs lack of ambtion. Wilson has gone to celtic. Not official yet but trust me. You know i don't start many threads especially transfer speculation but he is gone. I know. Sgned, sealed but not yet delivered.

Another squad player?! Wilson would have been in the starting XI for every match next season (fitness and suspension permitting). One of our best players, not a squad player. Can't say I blame him though... a lot more money for the same job, he'd be crazy to say no.

I meant another player from our squad leaving us even weaker.

If it happens, it's obviously dissapointing, but there's not an awful lot we can do.

We can't compete with what Celtic will offer him, it's been rumoured they're going to pay him from 15/20k p/w. If we get anything like £2m for him with 12 months left on his contract, we have to be satisfied.

He was superb last season, but I completely understand why he may be sold.

I'd take Mawene as his replacement.

After rejecting a new contract, if Celtic come in with a higher bid, have to say looks like he will go. Then again, before last season, if someone had offered you £2m for Wilson, you'd have taken it. It might allow us to invest in more experience at the back

It's not like we're short of cash to invest with in the first place, we just can't seem to sign anyone...

If you're right then it is a big blow, but not evidence of a lack of ambition as you state.

There is nothing more the club can do if he isn't going to sign a contract extension. He will walk away for nothing in a year's time. We can't afford to turn down £2M plus for a player in that situation and anyone who thinks we should is living in cloud cuckoo land. That would leave us with £2M to find a replacement, rather than trying to replace him with nothing next summer. I'm sure some people will say how promotion is worth £60M, but having Wilson in the team didn't guarantee promotion last season just like it won't next season.

If we get a good offer for a player that is in the long-term interests of the club then we have to take it and move on. There are other good CBs out there. This time last year people would have given him away so it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I don't mind having a go at playing centre back if needs be.
 
I posted on Friday evening in the other Wilson thread that this was apparently a done deal and Wilson should be a Celtic player by This Friday.

This information comes from a source that advised me that Perch was on his way to Newcastle the Friday before it happened.

I never posted the information on the forum as I didn't believe it would happen.

Hopefully this won't but wanted to just tell you all what I've been told.

No offence to you or to Cenobite, but I will believe it only when I see it on the OS. It may well be true, but I cannot believe the number of 'done deals' that have been spoken about this summer on the forum. Those people who really do know what's going on will no longer be believed because of all the others that are guessing or making it up.

Same here mate, I try not to post that much but with the source being correct about Perch I thought it might be of interest.

Personally I hope it is BS and Wilson is staying.

I love the way everyone is outraged, but he hasnt actually officially gone anywhere yet.
