Kelvin Wilson - give him a break!

Does anyone else think we might have been overreacting a touch to Wilson's sending-off towards the end of last season? As I recall, he was generally pretty solid up to that point and it was only when he got himself sent off that everyone seemed to turn against him.

Perhaps now would be a good time to put that episode behind us, especially since it would seem BD has no intention of letting him go any time soon (after all, he has only just been given the number 6 shirt for the 2009 / 2010 season). I'm sure Wilson will have learned his lesson from that moment-of-madness incident and he may well emerge a better player for it. I just hope that when his name is announced in the starting line-up in a couple of weeks' time that we don't boo him - that would be a disaster, not just for him but for the whole team.

Let's also try to put that incident in perspective - he didn't break anyone's leg and ruin their career, steal their pension fund or drown their kittens in the Trent - he just got himself a little bit too fired up for a crucial game and overdid it a bit on the passion / aggression front. What's done is done, let's all try to be reasonable and give him one more chance and let's get behind him and the whole team for what promises to be one of the best seasons in years.

There. I've said it. Back to the lurking!!

Spot on!

While he had a shit start to the season (just like every other player) he played very well for the most part in the second half of the season upto that Sheff Utd game. Obviously that wasn't the brightest thing he did but everyone makes mistakes and he has made very few since he joined us. His pace has bailed us out no end of times but one moment of stupidty and everyones saying he's shit when he clearly isn't.

I agree, we deff nate-ly should not boo him. But I'm not entirely sure that he'll start anyway because maybe Morgan and Chambers are ahead of him in the halfback postion anyway and also we might be signing Mills.

Not really. Most people were criticising his lack of effort way before the sending off.

IMO ion the past 2 seasons he has only had half a good season and that was the first half of L1. He always seems uninterested and tries to 'show off' end sup losing the ball and putting us under pressure, if he sticks to what he is good at then he will be a very good championship player but if he keeps making these silly mistakes he is destined for L1 football

Wilson is a far superoir footballer to Chambers. he just needs to learn when to put the balol out when we are under pressure and when he can play from the back. I believe he should be given the chance to partner Wes as he is the best we have and he was starting to play well before his sending off

Never rated him.

His pace got himself out of trouble a lot in league 1.

He's too quick to blame others for his own failings and doesn't take responsibility.

I thought he looked quite good in league one but on the whole very average in Championship.
Not necessarily crap, but at best average.
We need better than average in my opinion.

I Think we got on his back because CC preferred him to Brecks at the start of the season, and when Pembo and BD came in we realised Breckin was better.

Hopefully Wilson improves this season though.

With the squad as it stands I'd definitely have him partnering Wes at centre half, I think he's got a lot more to offer than Chambers there. It took him a while to settle and gain some consistency in the Championship, and the sending off was stupid, but he's quick, reads the game and sweeps up well, which is what Wes needs in a partner.

He's a decent enough player, attitude seemed to have got better as the season progressed. I think there was no over-reaction to his sending off at sheff utd, if we hadn't gained a point there, im sure it would have been 1998 beckham-esque effigy burning in the streets simply because it could have been the straw that broke the camels back, our season pretty much rested on getting that point, morale wise and position wise.

I cant see any of our players getting booed at the start of the season to be honest, We're generally happy at the moment at surviving and signing some good players.

People who boo players instead of cheering them are generally idiots anyway.

on his day wilson is better than wes for me, quicker, tidier and a better footballer. the only problem is his day dont come anywhere near often enough. but no need to give up on him just cos he was shaky in a strugglin team, hes only 23 and will get better. if he can keep consistent, cut out stupid mistakes and concentrate more theres no reason why he shouldnt be a starter for forest. him and wes both playing well and communicating better would be a good partnership as their styles can compliment each other

I think if anyone out of the starting 11 from last season needed replacing it would be him, but I'm willing to give him a second chance. Maybe that sending off gave him a much needed kick up the arse? Let's face it, in league one he was excellent I thought on the whole and always looked very comfortable dealing with whatever he needed to deal with. When we got promoted, he (along with just aout everyone else) soon realised that we needed to drastically raise his game, something that is easier said than done. Suddenly that Ferdinand-esque confidence that we saw in him before began to seem more like nonchalence and a few on the message boards began to grumble, but nothing more than that really. It was only when he stupidly fell into Greg Halford's trap that the fans really turned (and at the time justifiably so, I was glad to see him fined!).

A lot of this bad feeling towards him is, in my opinion, mainly due to the fact that he hasn't played since then and thus hasn't had a chance to redeem himself. To see he dosen't have a part to play is foolish in my view. If we do eventually sign Matt Mills then I agree that it would be his place in the team should be sacraficed to make room for him, but I think he is a very good player to be able to bring in to cover ANYWHERE across the backline. Anyone who saw him slot in at left back at Man City in the cup will attest to his flexibility and usefulness to the squad. To rule him out now would be very foolish indeed.

Last season, Wilson was far too erratic for my liking. You just never knew what kind of performance to expect. Sure, he has the ability but is often hampered by his attitude and laziness. His sending off last season was totally unnecessary and avoidable although he's not the first to see the red mist and he won't be the last.

As with all players, they should start the new season with a new slate and along with greater competition for first team places, I fully expect nothing but 100% commitment from everyone. Billy will not let us down and will whip those who do.

Good news for some then, looks like Wilson might have to be given a break, if he's injured.

On the positive side, maybe this also forces Nigel's hand into making Donny an offer they can't refuse for Mills.

Another dog s**t performance from Wilson along with Chambers.

Matt Mills please Nigel. :)

I thought Wilson was fine today. He dallies a little on the ball, but he's definitely better than Chambers. But yes, Matt Mills please Nige!

Dog shite from Wilson? He only played the first half and I can't remember them doing anything at all offensively whilst he was on the pitch.

Yeah I think people are associating Chambers' poor performance with Wilson for some reason. He didn't have a lot to do really.
I dont really rate him, and think that he is the worst player in the first 11. We need a centre back, or preferably two, we are quite short in that area.

To be fair, Mitchell looked pretty solid when he came on, we probably shouldn't write him off just yet! Remember Dawson 02/03?!

This should silence the people who keep banging on about how good Chambers is at CB. The facts are that when Wilson was on the pitch we looked solid and kept a clean sheet and when Chambers replaced him we conceded 2 goals, the first an absolute howler. He's looked ok in pre-season games but only because strikers are not 100% going for it as they would in a league game. Wilson is far superior to Chambers as a CB. That is a fact. The sooner people realise Chambers is not good enough, the sooner we will progress as a club.

there has been talk of chambers being great at cb, people wouldnt be to bothered if we didnt sign a CB.

I always said Chambers deserved a chance at CB, and that is what he is getting. It seems that he is proving what many suspected which is that, as well as being an inadequate right back, he's also not much better at CB.
