Keep your chin up Wes

Thought id start a little thread to give Wes a bit of a boost, he must be feeling pretty shit after getting another own goal again yesterday, thats his 3rd this season, 1st was against West Brom, 2nd against Derby, and 3rd against Sheff Weds.
The thing is, its not down to him deliberately but shows he is in the right place at the right time to block shots, he has just been very unlucky that the shot has deflected into the goal.

So chin up Wes, dont let it affect your game, you are still a rock in the defence.

If he'd have got rid of it properly it wouldn't have deflected back off him

Wes is unlucky , you have to ask the whereabouts of Chambers since he was marking Tudgay

One thing i have noticed is that Wes is getting better at reading the game , he always try to intercept any passes before it reaches its intended target , he doesn't always get there but he at least tried , some defenders doesn't even do that , they just wait and watch till it drops for the opposing striker.

Wes has gone from being the guy who will do alongside Dawson until we find someone decent to being the charismatic defensive colossus we insist on always having one of at Forest. The rest can only learn from his attitude to the game. That's not to say he can't improve himself, mind you - he's got a couple of years yet before I'd be expecting hoim to have reached anything like his best.

I agree, Wes is very good a blocking shots and through balls which is more than can be said of most defenders. Hes just been unlucky that shots occasionally bounce off him towards goal. He's still our best centre back I dont care what people say!

You really shouldn't knock our leading defensive goal scorer!

Joking apart, although disheartening, I don't hold a grudge against Wes or any other player for deflected goals. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that happens when you're almost in the right place at the right time. There are other questions to be asked.

Wes has been unlucky this season so far, he couldn't have helped any of the own goals so we're not going to give him any stick.

In my opinion he has been excellent this season, so keep your chin up Wes. Your doing fine :)

Had his 250th career league appearance for Forest against Derby the other week, kept Varney in check all afternoon yesterday. Definitely improved this season, and IIRC, is the only Forest player to play every minute of every game so far this season.

Morgan had a brilliant game yesterday, largely because he had to do all Chambers' work as well. Made some heroic blocks and the fact that one of them deflected in is just bad luck. If he hadn't been making those blocks all game we would not have drawn, we would have lost.

The man's been colossal in every game i've seen, puts in 100% every time and guess what he's actually developed into an excellent championship centre half now. I can't praise him enough.

I think i'm in love with big Wes

Why has more shots deflected off Wes Morgan than anyone else.............Because Morgan blows his goolies off to get so many blocks in, it is understandable that if they are going to deflect in off a player, they will be off, the one who puts his body on the line game after game.

Wes Morgan always has been a star.

Well said that man. Wes has been astar from day one. If there was a match being played with your life at stake you'd want Wes in your team.

I remember commenting on a previous thread some time ago on the subject of Wes and his uncanny ability to deflect opposition shots into our goal of any part of his anatomy..

I doubt it will have knocked his confidence, he's supposed to try and block it after all. It was just unfortunate that it deflected off him in the way it did.

Wes has been excellent this season, so far. But he clearly needs to work on his composure and control. Hes obviously doing everything he can to throw himself in front of shots....and maybe its an area he learn abit more control in.

Hes been very unlucky, but with the sheer amount of times hes done this over the years....maybe its something he needs to work on?
Otherwise hes possibly the most unlucky defender in history.

Thats not me being critical by the way, just that it happens so often....im beginning to wonder if theres not something he can do to combat it:)

Wes was fantastic yesterday.

All I'll say is that as a unit we took too long to get out of our penalty area for the goal yesterday. We were far too deep for far too long. After Cohen blocked the ball outside the box there should have been a shout and the players should have pushed forward to the edge of the box at the very least. I really think this has been the reason for all these deflections and own goals. It'll always happen in a crowded penalty area.

Well I've thought about this for quite a while and I can definitely say that I will not be keeping my chin "up Wes".
