Would prove excellent cover (if we couldn't get Camp) should City sign Given which looks likely. Has stated he wants away from CIty and wished he'd never have signed a four year contract.

Thoughts?

What?! ???

He's better than Camp and certainly wouldn't come here to "provide cover" :D

IF he does come (which I highly doubt) he will be our number one keeper :)

Promising young keeper but rather suspect on crosses to say the least, he has a habit of coming for balls and getting nowhere near them.

I'm surprised that people just assume he'd be our number one, he's far from the finished article.

Remind you of anyone?
I agree with Jacky B, he would be an excellent signing and would walk into the first team

Smith's cautious approach is infinitely preferable to coming out and missing every third cross, some day you'll understand that.

If by cautious you mean indecisive and hesitant. And there are numerous occasions where Smith will come for a cross and get no-where near it. Schmeichel would be at least one evel up from smith, of that there can be no doubt. Surely.

No, I mean cautious. Of course there are occasions where Smith will misjudge a cross, he's not perfect and it's something that's happened to every keeper in history from Lev Yashin to Ademola Bankole. However, whether you like it or not such instances where Smith misses a cross are exceedingly rare.

And whilst young Schmeichel may end up being an excellent goalkeeper one day it's clear from seeing him play that he's still got a fair bit to learn. On current ability Smith is the better of the two from what I've seen, in fact I'd say that Camp is currently a more accomplished goalkeeper than Kasper Schmeichel.

He's got a lot of potential but he's not realised it as of yet.

I think general consensus would be that Smith is the worst of the three (Camp and Schmeichel the other two) but that is more a complement to them than a criticism of Smith, who i believe to be an adequate keeper but not one that we can afford to rely solely on.

Whilst majority agreement doesn't necessarily equate to truth I think you'd be surprised. Whenever I talk to non-Forest fans about Forest matches they've seen they are always surprised to hear how much stick Smith comes in for, he's regularly highlighted by neutrals I speak to as perhaps our best player.

We need another keeper granted but not because we need a replacement.
