Just woke up

Was having a great dream, Forest had made so many signings. But after waking up and looking at what we have really done, it's not that much of an improvement.

We have 3 new players on the team that showed promise at the end of last season, an old striker, old midfielder and a striker from a relegated team.

With the loanees becoming permanent, atleast we have signed players we know will fit in. I still beleive we will sign another defender, and I beleive he will be a centre back!

Thing is we would have finished around 9th with BD and that squad if it was over a season. We have now made additions to the squad, with possibly a couple of more to come still. No time for the bah humbug attitude in July :p

Without the quality new additions, it's like standing still, but expensive still.

Well the loan signings who we've signed on now weren't really expensive. Only Gunter, and we weren't really standing still when he was here, nor is the signing of him for 1.75 million quid standing still - its moving forward.

Its such a pessimistic way of looking at things.

With these players throughout all of last season + BD we would have finished in the top half, you would think. They were only here for a few months and saved us from what looked like certain relegation!

Its only July, there's a month and a half to sign more players. If he gets a CB and a left winger we have a team probably 5 times as good as this time last year. Thats not counting Blackstock and this Polish bloke and possibly McSheffery!

pual hart mounted a play off push with the same side we strugled with the season before, so I dont think you can read to much into the fact we have the same players as last season, the most important thing is we now have cover for when the strikers are injured.

Gunter was the last of the loans to arrive last season and from that date we played 8 matches and collected 12 points. The 2 games we lost were actually Gunter's first two games - Burnley away (enough said) and Wolves at home (which we should have won).

After that we were unbeaten for the last 6 games and took 12 points - promotion form. Even using the form from the last 8 matches, including Wolves and Burnley, over the full season we would have only missed out on a play-off spot by 5 points

Cause for optimism?

By that logic without them we'd be relegated, even more expensive.

Take your choice, shell out on players that did well for us last season and have an excellent chance on pushing on up the championship or say hello to league one again.

But not signing the loanees permanently (and a s a result not having them available this season), would definetly be a backwards step.

All I'm saying is that the numbers aren't as impressive as they sound. The media and fans of other teams may see them as additions but we should remember they were Forest players last season.
I can get as stiff as the next fellow.

The benefit of this though is that we don't have to wait for the squad to 'gel'. Gunter, Lynch, Anderson, Camp & Blackstock have all proven that they are capable and they fit in with the rest of the squad. McKenna is a known quantity having worked with Billy before - So it's only McGoldrick (local lad, young, high potential), Adebola (proven at this level) and Majuicemaker (or whatever his name is) that are any sort of gamble - & we haven't had to shell out for the last 2.

This team is moving forwards. Who knows how far forwards that is...

The old midfielder will prove to be all we needed. The old striker will be used mostly on away games before we bring on people like tyson for last 20mins after the old striker has worn them out. You are also forgetting the highly rated young polish midfielder that blackburn offered 3m for last season.

I cannot believe anyone could possibly be negative at this moment in time.

This has been the best Pre-season for activity since I went on an adventure holiday with forty three page three models, all of whom were gagging for it.
