Norwich will sign midfielder Sammy Clingan from Nottingham Forest when his contract expires on 1 July.

The 24-year-old will then be available on a free transfer and has agreed to sign a two-year deal at Carrow Road.

Manager Glenn Roeder told the club's website: "I am extremely happy to sign Sammy. He is a Northern Ireland international with lots of experience.

"Having met him he struck me as having the drive and motivation that I am looking for in my players."

Clingan, who joined Forest in January 2006, plays predominantly as a defensive midfielder and is also a free-kick specialist.

He said: "I am really looking forward to getting Norwich promoted to the Premier League.

"Once I had spoken to Glenn Roeder and seen the fantastic facilities at the club, it was easy decision to make to join Norwich.

"I know of Glenn's managerial reputation and hopefully he will help me become a better player.

"I was very impressed with what he said and his plans for the future - it really caught me and now I cannot wait for the first game."

They certainly are changing leagues this season lol lol lol lol

Clingan has developed into a much better player since joining Norwich. We should resign him for at least £17.5 million and then watch him metamorphosize back into a crab. I'm so damn hard right now, please excuse me while i go and release my man seed in a strangers sock.

Clingan has been instrumental to Norwich's season.. I dont mean in a bad way, but pretty much everything they've done RIGHT has been down to him.

Made captain for some parts, taker of all set pieces, and looked one hell of a lot more dangerous than when he was at Forest.

Was just a shame we didn't have the right man in to see his potential and give him the confidence to get a few more shots on goal.

Id love to see him back at the CG and would certainly welcome the news if BD was to be looking at him.

He's a Judas w**king traitor. He'd be about as welcome back at the City Ground as Kris Clapmerchant Commons.

I love it when players mention the "facilities" when they sign for clubs - what a load of shit! The last time I accepted a job I know for sure it was not because they had a nice gym! Hard lines Sammy, you are a decent player but we don't need you back and you made a bad decision in hindsight. Fancy putting your faith in Roeder, f*** me that was poor choice!

Something tells me he might have to take a pay cut now though....

I'd hazard a guess that a good gym is more important in Clingan's profession than in yours though...
