Norwegian media are reporting that Wolves and Crystal Palace have agreed on a fee, and that JSL is now likely to make the move. He will probably make his debut on Sunday.

I do think we might regret this letting this one go...
Are you basing the regret on the age difference and the resale value? Other than that I think JPM is a better all round striker

JSL body of work smaller, but he hit very similar numbers to Mateta last year - same number of goals (mateta had 2 pens, JSL 0), but JSL conversion rate better.
I like the idea of buying talent with resale also.

I think they are of similar quality, but JSL is younger and is resale value is higher, so therefore I also think he is a better buy, but I won't complain if we get Mateta, then it's ok, but the problem is I don't think we'll get, but we could have got JSL.

Christ....£45M plus £5M 😮

I'm glad we went nowhere near him, not a chance on earth he's worth £50M
We surely must have reached agreement on a JPM price if they have agreed with Wolves on JSL?

If Palace try and increase Mateta's price now and we walk away, they'll lose the cash cow that pays for Strand Larsen.

Not that I think we will walk. I reckon they could gouge us for a few million more for Mateta, especially if the player is keen.

It could be where the spurs "link" has emerged from too. The tried and tested claim that another club is interested in order to wrangle another few million.

They must still have cash from the Eze and Guehi sales, even after spunking £35m on Brennan?

In PL, were clubs pay 66 million for Gyokeres, 56 millions for Madueke, 46 millions for Kerkez, 42 millions for Ouattara, 57 millions for Wissa, 76 millions for Sesko, 46 millions for Garnacho, 75 millions for Woltemade, 61 millions for Elanga and so on.... PL clubs do pay silly money all the time and I don't think this stands out particularly.

He is a good striker, way better than what we've seen this season. Not so sure about Palace being the best move for him at the moment though.

£50m for JSL and people are talking about resale value :ROFLMAO: . By the end of his contract, they will be lucky to get half of that for him. He shown himself to be a tidy enough striker last season, but we have seen plenty of players come in and do well in their debut season. For that sort of money, I'd have wanted to see multiple years scoring 10+ goals in this league to justify the price.

It does seem a strange move on his part. He's pretty much jumped from the Titanic as it's about to sink to another ship that might just hit that same iceberg.
Palace seems to be in a bit of a crises so it's definitely a bit surprising yes, especially since Glasner is on his way out as well. I know he's desperate to get more playing time to secure his place for Norway at the WC, but it might be a bit short sighted.

The price is obviously inflated but that's the reality of buying a striker in January
They actually wanted 55m for him last summer. Their impending relegation and potential financial implosion has obviously lowered their demands somewhat

The only leverage they have anymore is the length of his contract, considering they're a soon to be championship club £50m seems far too generous. Anything over £35m seems generous to be honest
