My auntie and uncle moved out to Dubai before the boom as he helped out with the IT for the hotels being built and they said it was amazing. Now, as very well documented, its about how flash and how extravagant one can be whilst there.

Always difficult to ever know the real reasons behind things. I would imagine that Shelvey might have conveniently forgotten a few details but that sort of behaviour would certainly fit in with other stuff we've heard about the way Marinakis works over the years.
