I bumped into and spoke with a long-time mutual friend, Jimmy McCann, today and I'm pleased to confirm that Robbo is "doing ok", considering his on-going medical situation.

What doesn't help him however are attention-seeking dragarses on Twitter/X posting totally baseless shite and in the process triggering misinformed threads such as this one.

Terribly sad news: Robbo has passed away today.

Probably the most overlooked legend in football ever.

We constantly hear about big time Charlies who failed to actually do much like Steven Gerrard, but real legends who spearheaded the charge of lower league clubs like ours to back-to-back European Cup winners and 1st Division titles are rarely spoken about.

RIP to a true legend of the game.

No words really do John Robertson justice.

He was by far the greatest of all the greats to play for Forest and one of the best left wingers to ever play the game.

I will always remember him and smile as my mind replays him turning a hapless full back inside out before putting the ball onto another Forest players head.

Thank you John for everything.

Oh no, that’s awful news and at a difficult time of year for his family and friends. Arguably the greatest player in our history, he should’ve had the European Player of the Year award in 1979 or 1980. He tore defences to shreds with his skill and movement, could cross and shoot accurately with both feet and would be worth an absolute fortune today compared with all the one-footed show ponies who get all the acclaim these days. He would either beat his full-back at will or they’d double or even triple mark him, leaving lots of room for our other great players to exploit. We used to love yelling ā€œSkin ā€˜im, Robbo!ā€ whenever he got the ball.

An absolute legend of the game, who didn’t get the national/international acclaim he should have at the time and almost certainly won’t now, unless it’s from some of the Forest fans in the national media. John McGovern was right on the money when he explained to someone who hadn’t seen Robbo play that he should imagine if Ryan Giggs had two good feet. (They weren’t exactly the same type of player, but he meant imagine if someone as good as Giggs undoubtedly was had been equally good with both feet.)

One of my greatest Forest memories is that diving header he scored against Cologne when he chose to play despite his brother’s having just died.

RIP, Robbo, and thanks for the memories.

Absolutely heartbreaking to hear this news. šŸ’”šŸ˜¢

Thank you John for the memories. You made my childhood and early Forest years so happy with Wembley wins and European victories.

What a player. A Forest icon.
