Joel Lynch

Is he worth another go in the left-back position? When he played there earlier in the season he didn't look that bad there (admittedly he wasn't particularly good either). However he is better there than Perch ever will be and Cohen's talents are wasted there.

If he isn't going to be given a chance there then why did we sign him? Or why is he still at the club? He's not going to get a look in at centre back with Wes, Wilson, Chambers and possibly Perch ahead of him in the pecking order.

It seems to be accepted at the club that Perch will make it as a full-back if anything, and I think it's fairly obvious that he's too slight for a centre-back.

As for Lynch, Billy spoke earlier in the season about seeing him as a centre-back when he settles into one position.

Also, he's been fairly injury prone throughout his time at Forest (which is one reason why I was quite surprised we signed him permanently), so I'm pretty sure he's missed a lot of matches this season through illness or injury.

It is quite surprising that he hasn't been given more of a chance, particularly since Cohen has done so well in midfield, and playing Lynch would at least give us a bit of balance at the back given that he is left-footed.

Lynch is worse than Perch, no thanks we need to be going forward not taking massive steps backwards.

I didn't think he was that bad.

Connected up well with Tyson/Anderson on the left.

i thought lynch started to improve last season and is the best left back we have in the current squad . when we play cohen at left back we really miss his presence in midfield. so much so that he should be captain.

I wanna see a new LB at the club by the time we play Donny but if not I think he's currently our best LB so but him there until we find a replacement.

i say give the lad a chance
he is quite good going forward and delivers a good cross

He's got it in him, I remember clearly a few games thinking "wow, that was a good cross, who put that in" ... look to check ... "what the ****, it was Lynch". I remember a few around me talking about it as well, and people were actually getting behind him as a bit of an underdog. I actually think that was last season, and he started this season without finding the same moments of quality.

The fact that Lynch is reported uninjured and in training and not made it as far as the bench would suggest that Billy doesn't believe that he's competitively ready.

Maybe his head's in the wrong place. :-*

I fully expect a loanee to arrive within the right time scale.

From what I have seen of him he certainly has the potential, although I don't think he is ready yet.

We should really send him out on loan to League 1 or 2 to get some first team experience with an option to recall just in case we need him.

I remember his cross for Earnshaws goal against Preston and the cross for McGugans goal against Swansea were particularly good. I am pretty sure he got another assist last season too.

There we go, I knew I remembered him having a few good moments :)

He was distinctly average to start with but got progressively better in the run up to avoiding relegation.

As TBT says the fact that Billy sees him training day in day out and he's not in the match day squad tells its own story. He did mention it in the interview last week when discussing the left back situation. "I've got Cohen who can play there but doesn't want to and Lynch who can play there but wants to play centre half"

I'm sure he would rather be in the team at left-back than sitting in the stand at the moment! Plus he signed for us when we had used him at left-back for most of last season so must have known that was where he was likely to be used.

I can only assume that BD doesn't think he's good enough.

BD has said he sees Lynch as a centre back long term but like you say I didn't think he did too bad there in a few games he had earlier in the season. Thing is since we've had Shorey, we're now comparing everything else to him, and we don't have anyone in that position anywhere near his level of quality, composure and abililty, and experience. But, the strides made forward now demand another such player of his level to be brought in for that position, but they are in short supply. The likes of Perch, Cohen, and Lynch just don't cut the mustard IN THAT POSITION at the level we now want and are at.

Hasn't he had family issues as well as injuries?

His girlfriend was still down here for quite some time and they were finding it difficult being so far apart.

As far as I know, things are sorted now with that so I don't know why he's not even getting close to the team at the moment.

my only gripe about lynch is he wares his trousers too low down his arse when shopping in ASDA..he should pull them up more. but this shouldn't effect his play.
