Just scored for Oldham in their National League play off game at the age of 37. Always liked Joe, a scrappy little so and so and effective when used correctly (i.e. not as a winger).

One of my best friends from university is a fanatical Oldham fan and is over the moon with this 4-0 result. Really rates Garner as a player.

I was at the game when I think we played Palace at home and he scored this header and I genuinely thought he's going to be some player. Shows how much I know. Haha

That was an absolutely beautiful chip. We were wearing a very random kit concoction I think. That black shirt with electric blue and white trim (which was a beauty) and red shirts and socks I think 🤣

I think he did it and we signed him anyway. But it probably knocked him a bit.

He was a naturally talented player though and I liked how aggy he could be.

He sort of reminded me of a championship Wayne Rooney.

I remember watching it sail over the top of the goalkeeper as we all held our collective breaths before it hit the net and we went absolutely nuts.

Even in real time it seemed to happen in slow motion.


Was it really 17 years ago?

Scored in today’s play off final at Wembley.

Amazing game where Oldham were 2-1 down in extra time and became 3-2 winners.

Well done Joe Garner and Oldham - especially after the previous owner oversaw two relegations from League One to the National League from 2018.
