I remember the 'colour revolution' when, after previously only black boots were a thing, maybe with a little bit of a coloured trim, suddenly white boots were a thing...and a cool thing, followed by every other colour you could image. I went and got myself a lovely gold-coloured pair - and my old-school coach was like "there's no way you're wearing them, I need you to look like a hard tackling defender, not a fancy-dan striker, when you've got the skill to wear gold boots, you can wear gold boots."

I think he probably gets paid... and possibly more than he would have earned for a shift down the pit, or at Player's factory.
Still, it is a brilliant interview, and I hope the lad continues and his obvious love of playing, and of forest, isn't sacrificed on the altar of money, and over-coaching.

The lucky kids at our school got to wear George Best branded boots back in 1971

Me, I had to wear plastic football boots from Woolworths.

I remember getting my first ever pair of 'screw in studs' from the Army and Navy stores when I was 14yrs old, I was on top of the world.

We used to "rough" the studs up on the concrete before games... you wouldn't get away with these namby-pamby days.

Possibly the Puma King as pictured then C'ptn.

I started out with New Balance solely down to Collymore wearing them. Copa mundials then became my boot of choice, copas were the moulded version and World Cup were studded. Interestingly (or maybe not) the world cups didn't have the same comfort fit as the sole was different so pros would have the copas drilled either by the kit man or sometimes by the YT's if they knew what they were doing to enable screw in studs rather than switching to the world cups

My pleasure. They've held up well for a 50 year old boot. There's a couple of pairs kicking about on ebay. Just pop in "vintage puma king"

Mine definitely were, being hand-me-downs from one of my older brothers. I also clearly remember getting my first pair of new boots, 'Stanley Matthews Goal Getters' with side-stripes and everything, when I was 11 or 12 from Redmayne & Todd on Carrington Street, and thinking I was the dog's wotsits.

I remember getting some Bryan Robson Pro-Lite shin pads from Redmayne and Todd, and also thinking similar!
 
By the time I was playing men's football in the late '60s, I was wearing stream-lined Gola boots, which was a hugely popular brand at that time.

I remember Peter Shilton wearing Gola boots when he played for Stoke City. :)

Yes, Gola was a brand that was heavily marketed back then Gary due to a lot of the top players wearing them. They were quality boots as I remember.

I also recall trying a pair of Stylo George Best side-lace boots around that time, but I couldn't take to them.
 
My first pair was Gola and then I went Puma King, Lotto and then the original Predator with the fins.

Second outing in the Predators and I ruptured my cruciate. After 12 months and maybe the fifth or sixth outing I reptured the same cruciate again.

Each wear of the predators cost me about £20!
