You say proven quality like it's a filter you can set on a player search, but in reality it's much more elusive than that. Anyone from abroad is a gamble; even buying from the PL - Newcastle thought they were buying proven quality in Elanga last summer and look at the season he's had.

Every transfer has an element of risk to it but there are certainly some that are riskier than others. Some of our signings last summer were signed with the future in mind but because of injuries were required for the present, to very variable degrees of success. That can't happen again this year.

Why can't they challenge now? Why are our first team so untouchable?

It's not about money either as we'll have a big pot of City money to spend this summer. With our finances and lack of Thursday night games there's absolutely no reason why we need to once again pay top money for purely potential only.

Do that again and we're running the risk of being a couple of injuries away from being in another relegation battle.

They can challenge now & it's not untouchable, they just have to be £50m+ players to get in our first team. Normally, the going rate for those players is about £50m.

You have an unbelievably binary view of this. If it were that easy every team would just become Man City over a period of 4-5 years.

I think it just needs good scouting. Aina was free, Milenkovic £10m etc. There are plenty of players in the league that would walk into our side that cost much less than £50m.

It's about the approach to recruitment, are we aiming to buy young players that will perhaps be good in a few years or more expensive ones that in theory should be good enough now? I'd rather get 3 of the latter than 6 of the former.

I accept it's not easy to do but it should at least be the aim.

Can't quite make sense of this logic, think you might be overcomplicating it. I'd be ok with Jota replacing Ndoye as our 4th choice winger and keeping the rest, as that would for sure mean a net profit. CHO will contribute again and Bakwa and Hutchinson have potential. No guarantee that a flashy new expensive winger would contribute more in their first season.

We need to keep Bakwa & Hutch 100%.

Let NDoye go whilst his stock is still high in Italy. He had time but has not shown anything other than a decent eye for goal.

All this talk of letting all 3 newly bought wingers go is madness.

OK. With the latest news about Murillo I'm hopeful that one of the big reasons behind him signing (aside from a huge pay rise) is that he's had assurances from the club about where we see the team going.

He will improve the squad, as we know he will deliver more than Ndoye has this season. Plus we bank the money for selling Ndoye.

I believe keeping Jota might be a backwards step. He is a bit of an enigma player but gives away fouls in dangerous areas. I quite like that he brings a bit of crazy to a game but I think we have moved on from that.

I don't believe he's any better than any of our wide players and we would do well to sell him.

But, saying that, I am in awe of how VP improves/gets the best out of players so, who knows?

I always liked Jota, he is a fully commited player who does not give up - I think I would keep him as he is a wild card and can change games, sometimes not always for the better !
However, if we are losing then a loose cannon like Jota maybe can help.
Whatever VP decides I am good with, but if he goes I would like another Premier League team to pick him up, to see if he can make it here.
Would have loved to see him in the old Wimbledon team with Vinnie Jones

I like him, the little Tasmanian Devil. Would do very well in Greece in my opinion, in fact i think he would be a really good squad member to play as the second striker in Vitors system but its highly unlikely he'll be kept.

You might have a short memory? I know I have, but in this case I clearly remember, against opposition of any note, Jota spent half his time "in possesssion" in a wrestling match out on the right with the opposing left back, three folds and a submission.
If that is football that anybody wishes for, then all fine and dandy.
