I don't care what he did elsewhere, I am basing my opinion on what he did in our league. He couldn’t get regular game time at Besiktas
'Okay for us' isn't enough of a reason to bring him back really for me. A big area for improvement for us this summer is creativity in the final third, particularly from wide and I just don't think Jota's blood and thunder approach (when he's not rolling around the floor) is the way to go.Or is it a case of the grass isn’t always greener, and maybe a note for those that apparently think we need a massive overhaul…
Jota was okay for us, he impacted a lot of games from the bench, plenty of times that should be deemed good enough.

Perhaps as a squad member, maybe. But I'd like to think we could do better.
He has a Wicked Game.Might as well have bought Isak.
Chelsea want him for his Blue HotelHe has a Wicked Game.
Absolutely, I think I'll go mad if I see us linked to players followed by 'good squad option' and 'good back up for X' posts.I think we're beyond Jota Silva now.
He was a good backup in our decent season under Nuno, he should have been retained as 4th choice last season rather than us spending all the money we did on players who have contributed even less. Even if he only played in Europe and the domestic cups that would have been fine as the quality of opposition we faced was largely poor.
But this season, without Europe, we need to trim the squad and focus on quality rather than quantity. I'm not dead set against him being 4th choice, but for that to happen I'd want us to shift all three of the wingers we signed last year and bring in two new ones who would walk straight into the starting eleven, leaving CHO as the immediate backup and Silva then as the emergency backup.
If we can't shift all three of our recent wingers then there's no space for Silva.
That’s the natural progression, it’s not easy to sign players to start immediately when they are trying to replace an incredibly strong first XI. You’ll be going mad this summer I presume.Absolutely, I think I'll go mad if I see us linked to players followed by 'good squad option' and 'good back up for X' posts.
We're up to our ears in 'squad players' now. Time to start recruiting to improve the team.

You have said we don't need 6 more fringe players and then gone on to ask for 6 more players?Well if we want to show some progression then we need to sign better players at some point. It's not an easy thing to do, it's not a cheap thing to do but it's necessary if we want to move forward. We'll have plenty of money to throw at it when Anderson goes and I'd rather drop the Anderson money on 2 quality players than 6 more 'squad players' making up the numbers. We're not in Europe next season so we don't need all the extra mediocrity.
If/when Anderson goes then that's one first teamer. Then arguably two wingers, a full back and maybe even a striker and keeper. All of those positions in our 'first team' are up for grabs in my opinion.
Assuming they're still here the only absolutely nailed on players for next season should be Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Sangare and Gibbs-White. The rest are either unproven, aging or unreliable with fitness.
Quality over quantity has to be the way this summer.
Can't quite make sense of this logic, think you might be overcomplicating it. I'd be ok with Jota replacing Ndoye as our 4th choice winger and keeping the rest, as that would for sure mean a net profit. CHO will contribute again and Bakwa and Hutchinson have potential. No guarantee that a flashy new expensive winger would contribute more in their first season. But this season, without Europe, we need to trim the squad and focus on quality rather than quantity. All this assumes that footballers are fixed entities with a set of statistics that are set in stone forever. I would expect at least one or two of last season's new signings to improve in their second season.Well if we want to show some progression then we need to sign better players at some point. I'd like to think so but it's no guarantee. With the Anderson money we should be targeting proven quality or as close to it as possible. Not development players like Bakwa or McAtee. All this assumes that footballers are fixed entities with a set of statistics that are set in stone forever. I would expect at least one or two of last season's new signings to improve in their second season.
I think the team is good enough, assuming (big assumption) they all stay fit. But the squad isn't.You have said we don't need 6 more fringe players and then gone on to ask for 6 more players?
I honestly don't think all these extra players are really needed. We have a large squad already that is perfectly good enough to challenge for Europe. Just replace outgoings if necessary and keep the squad the same as it has been when we have been playing brilliantly and getting tremendous results. It ain't broke. Don't fix it.
I wonder if it is the Football Manager type games that create this kind of thinking?

The progression comes from signing players that will challenge long term & gradually become in our best XI. You are not signing squad players for them to be permanently second fiddle, half the names you mentioned were signed in those circumstances.Well if we want to show some progression then we need to sign better players at some point.
