Jesse Ellis Lingard

Marvin Eaglecock

Entitled Forest supporter
He wanted Forest/Man U money but to play for West Ham, he also said that commuting to be near his daughter was easier from Nottingham.

Don't wish any ill will towards him but he was not fit enough to contribute on the pitch and the same would have been the case had he joined West Ham or anyone else. He was great off the pitch for us but it seems a bit revisionist to say his hand was forced.

Didn't we actually pay him a lower basic salary that West Ham but with bonus add ons that he probably rarely earned?

West Ham fans still peddle the rumour that we paid him £200K pw.

He was a free agent so saying he was forced to come to us is bollocks, He can f*** the f*** off, West Ham dodged a bullet.

Is that the biggest downgrade ever - Riccy Scimeca replaced by Danny Sonner? It shouldn't, but over 20 years later, I still get annoyed about what happened in the summer of 2003 after thr playoff defeat!
The absolute worst thing about Danny Sonner is that he scored a wonder goal against us shortly after (I think) - was it Sheffield Wednesday away? Of all the twats it had to be him.

Harry Arter and Jonjo Shelvey are literally miles ahead of Lingard in the ‘worst ever signings’ stakes. Those two are in a league of their own. Dennis is worse too with how long we’ve been stuck with him.

The likes of Shipperley, Rosario, Silenzi, Mannini, Jerkan are all worse too. You can’t make arguments about how much this list cost because transfer fees and wages have ballooned since that time, but it’s hard to make a case that Lingard offered less than any of them did.

The Lingard contract was actually not that bad, it didn’t work out obviously and he was terrible on the pitch, but it helped our profile and didn’t cost that much comparatively in this day and age.
I'm not saying he offered less as such, as clearly he contributed more on the pitch than Silenzi (just). But based on what we thought we were getting vs what we got (plus the wages and the media circus). Its a very technical criteria but I put all the players in our history into it and Lingard came out worst. Shelvey second. Arter third.

Oh lord I've found it and relived the horror.

(And it was actually before we signed him, which may also be why I disliked him so much - he could do that against us but did absolutely nothing for us!)

The thing he never meant anything to me or Forest, I heard he was whining and Bitching, I couldn't be bothered to read the so called news and this thread.

As I said when we signed him Meh.

Once a greedy judas bastard..........always a . . ..

He’s a grown man who chose to join us. He seemed happy enough ant the time when he filmed that helicopter ride and said he ‘felt the love’. Abstract references that he didn’t really want to join just sound silly.

He wishes he’d have joined a club stupid enough to give him a 3 year contract… I reckon a couple of years playing second division football in South Korea has made him realise his careers been pissed away

Whatever. We paid him a lot of money and he was always injured and didn't do much when he wasn't injured.

Was a bit of a shame it didn't work out and it was nice to see that he seemed invested in the team, in spite of his injury.

Still, don't care either way about this revisionism. If he'd had gone to West Ham, he'd have likely suffered similar injury issues - only with a 3 year contract to fall back on. I guess in that sense I can appreciate his regret, but let's face it. It's not as though teams were queuing up to sign him after one injury hit year with us. Safe to say he was likely done as a player at the top level by that point.

Absolutely pointless interview from an unemployed player trying to keep his name in the press.

"I absolutely wanted to sign for West Ham instead of Forest, but I signed for Forest"

- why?

"Well, certain things. I can't say too much. I learned about some people, disappointing. But I definitely wanted to sign for West Ham"

-what things? what people? why did you sign for Forest then?

"Like I said, I can't say, just certain things"

-great, thanks Jesse, that was illuminating mate

Sounds like a man hoping to get that call from West Ham now.

I'd be surprised if he got a call from West Brom right now tbh, regardless of his revisionism he wasn't fit when he joined us and didn't get fit really until he left. He went to Korea because no top flight team wanted him including us extending his stay and West Ham.

He seems to be painting a picture like he was let down when in reality he was paid a fortune and let us down by not contributing to a mammoth effort to keep us up bar posting some social media stuff.

A troubled individual who lacked the mental strength to reach the top level which he was undoubtedly physically capable of, he's not the first and he won't be the last.
No shame in this, becoming an elite player is about much more than ability alone.

He must be trying to get his name out there again in an attempt to get a move to an English side.

He was useless in the pitch but the lads seemed to like him, expensive cheerleader but at least he did something behind the scenes.

There is an irony that Lingard came to the club as a replacement for Zinckernagel and I'm not suggesting that Zinck would have been a better option for us than Gibbs-White or even that he'd have flourished in the Premierleague but consider how their past four years have gone.
  • Zinck went to Olympiacos and to be fair, he had a shit half season.
  • He moves to Belgium and plays for Standard Liege, bags 9 goals in 24 appearances.
  • He goes to Club Brugge, bags 6 goals and 7 assists.
  • He goes to Bodo/Glimt, plays in the Europa League as well, scores 5 goals and 4 assists for them.
  • He then goes to the MLS and I shit you not, scores 15 goals and 12 assists in 32 appearances for Chicago Fire.
Jesse did pretty well in Korea but he's now in the wilderness again at 33. Hindsight is lovely but we probably could have just signed Zinck permanently and he'd have done better than Lingard did for us.

There is something to be said that Samba, Spence, Zinckernagel, Surridge, Davis and Garner would all probably add quality to this current squad. If you replayed Victor, Zinchenko, McAtee, Awoniyi, Kalimuendo and say Luiz with those players, the quality difference actually might be better.

I still find it amazing that people (especially grown adults) buy into everything footballers say in interviews.
