We have to start somewhere and Jenas is the type of quality we should be looking at if we were to go up.

All the talk of Pratley & Adams is nonsense if we should hit the big time - They may be good for their respective clubs at Championship level but we would need to look at players that has proven ability at Premiership level whereby neither of these two has done that - And if they were that good - why hasn't any Premiership clubs snapped them up before now?

We would have to pay more money for players of quality like Jenas but it would make more sense than buying middle of the road players like Pratley & Adams that are untried at Premiership level.

Should we not go up then I'd be inclined to look at those two because of their performances in this league and we would also have to cut our cloth accordingly.

Higher standards - means higher performers.

I partially disagree. The money bandied about for established Premiership players is mind boggling and we would struggle to meet the transfer fees and wages being asked. I've always supported the principle of a promoted team cherry picking the best players from the league they are leaving. Just because they haven't been poached by a top league team doesn't mean they are not worth having - remember when we signed Collymore and Cooper under Frank Clark? They both turned out okay .....

I have more support for your comment about signing players from relegated clubs. A few might be worth having, but generally they were relegated for a reason.

Don't let's get bogged down here by small minded thinking - The Collymore's & Coopers of this world are few and far between.

Yes, it's nice when they come along but we can't keep buying mediocre players in between times in hope that one might turn out to be a little gem.

Should we go up! then I'm afraid to stay there, we have to compete - and to compete we have to spend.

Don't forget - when everything is divvied out, Forest will have banked something in the region of around £90m of which we will receive £60m up front from the League.

With that sort of revenue it should be well within our means to go out and buy 6/7 players at around £5/6m each and pay Premiership wages in order to attract that sort of quality we will need.

Forest, with their reputation should and will attract better players than teams like Hull - Burnley & Portsmouth. These teams between them only had a handful of Premiership quality - the rest will find their level in the Championship.

We have to grasp the nettle now and bring in the quality with the hope to survive in the first year and build on it for future years.

My only reservation to all of that is if Davies isn't backed by the club and more so by the Acquisition Committee.

We have to get rid of our reputation of paying mediocre wages and offering peanuts for the better players but not at the expense of doing a Portsmouth.

Clubs like Bolton – Wigan – Blackburn & Fulham survive on far less crowds than us but seem to manage their finances and hold their position, so I can’t see a problem in us over-spending in our first year back and doing a Burnley by coming straight back down.

We certainly wouldn't get '£60m up front'. Bssides 6 players at £6m on £30k a week wages is the best part of £50m anyway. That's before you add on the current staff wages and any bonuses they'll recieve if we do get up.

They're established though, aren't they? They've been recieving Premier League revenues for years and they still don't spend enormous amounts of money on players, certainly not in the region of the £50m you're advocating.

You've also got to consider that established Premier League players and potential Internationals like Jenas wont be interested in joining a newly promoted club, that will be amongst the favourites to go down.

Sunderland went up and splashed an absolute fortune but could only bring in Championship players and a few from Scotland.

I think that the AP may do a decent job if we go up. We all know that we don't pay massive wages, but wages will increase IF we go up, we would offer a pretty basic wage and then top it up with a lot of lucrative bonuses, something which I believe will be enough to entice enough quality until we become more established.

Im sure we will sign some exciting and interesting players over the summer, whatever the result tonight.
