The places in which Nottingham Forest are looking to buy players, if they decide to spend in January at all are fairly obvious, left back and left wing. Nicky Shorey has come in on loan until the end of December and many expect he will move to Forest in January and if not at least extend his loan until the end of the season to continue in the previous problem position. It seems though that the target for the left wing may be a little unexpected as rumours start to surface that Billy Davies has identified Plymouth Argyle wide man Jamie Mackie as a possibility.
The former Wimbledon and Exeter man was touted in the media earlier this season as a target for local rivals Derby County in a supposed £1m move which never materialised and looks unlikely to be resurrected due to the current financial woes at Pride Park.
Mackie has impressed at Plymouth since joining just under two years ago in a deal worth initially £145,000 and potentially rising on factors such as international appearances. In his short time with the Pilgrims he has made over 70 appearances for the south west club in that time scoring twelve goals from the left wing and is now an everpresent in their side.
The 24 year old Surrey born player can play as a striker but seems to be more settled now on the left wing at this stage of his career and would be expected to fill this role should he move to the City Ground.
Trentside scouts have been out to watch Plymouths number eight who has played in 18 games this season scoring four goals along the way, but if the Reds develop a genuine interest and make a move in January we will have to wait and see.
