Stories around that we're in the market for a keeper or two .
Talk that we'll move on from Sels too.
Didn't reach the heights of last season , dropped by his country in a WC year and advancing in years. And each new regime seems to have their own ideas on keepers.
A bit harsh? But suppose that's the life of an elite keeper - a volatile vocation.
I'll let @Strummer go on about them, but, Noah Atubolu, or Dennis Seimen, but, the latter is really rated at Stuttgart.

He'd be a massive risk, in my opinion. He looked nervous and error-prone when he got minutes for Man City this year.

I think we should stick to proven keepers in the future - it seems pretty easy to pick them up for relative peanuts.
Unreal pressure at City under Pep / the worlds media. I wouldn't put much stock in that, he'd likely thrive somewhere else.

This talk of replacing Sels is a perfect example of people thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. I'd give it a 50:50 chance that we'd be regretting it within months. And I wouldn't replace him with Trafford even as a straight swap and 10 years younger.

Dennis Siemen is very highly rated, a player I really like (I saw him playing for the VfB youth side) and had a solid loan this season, playing 34 times at Paderborn (who went up via the Playoff, beating Wolfsburg) and although he’s not even 21 until December, there’s talk of him being given a chance to stake a claim to the #1 shirt, given that Alexander Nübel is going back to Bayern as his loan ends (however, it is possible a deal may be done for him, as Bayern are chock-full of decent goalkeepers, and the VfB will have Champions Legue money next season).

Agree it’s a 50/50 call.

The chances we regret moving on from him are the same as just sticking with him. Not sure I like those odds with my starting keeper.

I don't think I've seen enough of Trafford to form a solid opinion (though he looks a little too small and lightweight to be an elite keeper), but I was interested to see that on Forest Focus both Mark Sutherns and Danscape, whose opinions I respect, were very keen for us to sign him.

Certainly could bulk up, but he’s 6’6”

Selz had a 7/10 season. I don't see anything wrong with having a steady Eddie in goal with no drama.

Given his age we should probably be identifying someone to come in with a view to replacing him in a season but I don't think I'd break the bank. I've mentioned Charles at Sheff Wed before who has great potential.
Looks like City are interested in Charles, ex academy product of theirs apparently.

Trafford just looks like Muric v2 to me, albeit slightly better.

It's also quite easy comparatively to do well in a side like City which keeps the ball and plays on the front foot and also has good defenders than to play in a side which is being attacked most of the time, there's more for the keeper to do in those teams, and we're still more of the 2nd example.

I do think we need to be looking at replacing Sels, it probably isn't imminent, but last season he wasn't as good as the season before, although there was a lot of external stuff going on with all the managers and everything else happening as well as the injuries he had which he was probably playing with. But then Sels is 34 now and there aren't too many keepers that play in the PL after 35 or so, unless they're 2nd or 3rd choice, and so it's likely something we'll need to do anyway in a year or two, and let's face it the other keepers we have brought in have either been terrible (Miguel, Victor, Turner, Vlachodimos), not intended as first choice anyway (Gunn, Hennessey), not long term options due to age (Navas) or not ours anyway (Hendo). Ortega was clearly short term so we had cover for JV being injured and also Sels clearly not fit, I wouldn't expect us to keep him next season. So we do need to do something and we can get the replacement into the club whilst Sels is capable next season.

I think whoever it was who suggested Peretz might be onto something, he was clearly a good spot for Southampton last season, and isn't going to be anywhere near the team at Bayern, but clearly an unknown at top division level so would be a bit of a risk.

But then, this is the situation when trying to replace one of the best GKs in the division (probably only Donnarumma, Raya, Pickford, Alisson, Martinez are as good or better) and then even the top clubs have drop offs in quality with their 1st and 2nd choices (because most of the time the 2nd choices don;t play anyway) so we're going to either have to take in a younger option as cover with the view they take it over in a year or so or look elsewhere...

Certainly some conflicting info, strange 😂

He is slightly taller than Erling Haaland there, who is 1.95

That 6'3 stat must have come from when Trafford was 14 or something

Siemen would never cum here.

All the data analysts are high on Trafford, and they tend to be the people who aren't wrong, at least not when a lot of them see something and agree.

It's unfair to compare him to Lewis, McAtee, Muric et al as players who have never done it anywhere. He played a season at Burnley in the PL at a very young age and conceded a lot of goals, but did look like he had something about him in a terrible team. He then went and backstopped a team in the Championship who proceeded to have one of the most unbelievable defensive records at that level in history, including an absurd number of clean sheets in a row. He then returned to City on the back of it and got stabbed in the back by the arrival of Donnarumma.

There is a reason most people paying attention think he will ultimately be England's next number one after Pickford.

I don't think we should go for him, he will be too dear for us financially in light of other needs, but for people to say they think he's garbage is a wild take, that doesn't line up in any way with what the vast majority of professional scouts and analysts think.

Never a better chance to get your keeper for the next decade. Future England #1 in waiting. Reckon it balances out nicely in conjunction with the Ando deal.

I suspect the player wants Newcastle though…..

Well Newcastle had been viewed as the favourites, but this implies otherwise now.

Given that Sels cost about £8m and Trafford would cost about £30m, I think that reflects pretty well on Sels myself.
