Welcome, Lukebeet!

Perch...?
Was decent enough last season but a shadow of his former self this one.

Caught out of position MANY times too often for my liking. As for recent performances - yesterday's in particular...well.

Frankly I've been amazed at how he's not been the first-choice to be substituted most games this season.

Just my thoughts......

He stays in the team because he is more commited than his team mates. He is also up for the battle. These are the things you need when you are staring at relagation.

He has a fan called perchy girl!
He looks more like a Pepperami.

He was good yesterday. Far better than Moussi was. He allowed Cohen to go forwards, which was key to our gameplan.

perch has come in for some stick lately but i thought he was one of our better players in the first half of the season.

Obviously a wind up thread.

Perch brings the team down and it's no surprise the midfield is constantly overrun when he plays.

Anyone that uses the word discuss in a post is a w**ker.

The entire point of a forum is to discuss things.

That's why it's called a forum.

Perch looked like an arse for most of yesterday.

Strong post !

Perchy is one of the most underrated players at this club in recent years. Think Chettle, Lyttle, Bonolair !
He does a job and does it as well as he can in his position. Imagine being in a company and being asked to fill roles you have never filled before. how comfortable would you be ? Add a virus to the mix and ask yourself. He is a very good player who has in recent seasons played everywhere except goal / striker !

If BD gets his 'reported' way, Perchy will be the mainstay of our back 4 next season ! It's not like BD to praise a player he has not really seen playing unless he has seen something of them. A CB plays short balls to break up attacks and starts a flow to a counter attack. As a CM he is being asked to play assists and supply the strikers !

Give him time and he will be back !

His best game: Yeovil at home. The defensive midfield position, played good!

I think Perch is one of our more spirited players, we need more like him. :)

I think he is probably not the best player in defensive midfield but competent enough to play there when needed to.

I like the idea of him playing centre back next season because I haven't really seen him play there much even though it is his natural position. I reckon he will be OK there however in the back of my mind is that Burnley game in which he had a shocker at centre back!

Mainly covering for other people...

Spent most of the game covering for Moussi!

To be fair, he is a defensive mid. He is quite good at covering for other people, getting back when our attacks have broke down. That's all he's really in there to do and if he does it and does it well, I'm happy with him, and for the most part I think he has done this. He's put a lot of good tackles in this season.

The problem is , he tends to sit in too deep , doesn't command his area whatsoever and doesn't get involved as much as he should. If you compare the way he does his job to someone like Savage , the difference in the way they do their job efficiently is quite a gulf. Perch isn't good enough at this level.

Perch is a good League One player and thats all.
Trouble is Billy loves him

He can't pass, which is not a good in a so-called defensive midfielder. His positional sense isn't good enough to play in the centre of the park either, I hope we find a position for him because he always gives his all, but I think he will go the way of John Thompson, jack of all trades but master of none.

Are you sure you're not talking about Paul Smith? ;)

Perch will never be a good midfield player. He has no awareness, no positional sense and is blinkered and incapable of passing a ball to anyone more than ten yards away.

The thought of him playing central defender frightens me to death.

Could be a decent right back though.

It's not often I comment on these boards, I'm more of a lurker to gauge general opinion I suppose, but I had to stick my two penneth worth in here. James Perch is rubbish. At Championship level, at League One level, at schoolboy level.

It amazes me how he gets in the team, but he's captain! What?! I've seen the debates about Paul Smith and Luke Chambers and they've had some rotten stick, considering one's a keeper short on confidence with a sorry excuse of a defence in front of him and the other's a centreback filling in at right back (for the past 2 years!) and Perch hasn't merited much of a debate until now.

He's been rubbish all season. I often forget he's playing. His only decent attributes are his bravery in the tackle and... and... I'm struggling. He can't be considered versatile when he's crap in every position he plays. I can't believe Billy likes him.

I hope he proves me wrong by turning into a decent footballer and making one position his own, but I can't see it.

Rant over.

PS - Think it was in an old LTLF fanzine issue, but he definitely has siblings in the velociraptors from Jurassic Park, although Pepperami is certainly a good lookalike.
