James Perch

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but . . . .

was it me or did james perch play really poor over the 2 legs, just thought his posistioning was all over the place and he was causing us alot of problems.

he made some cruicial errors in both legs, it is me just being crictical or did he have a bad couple of games?

where i was in the ground people were standing up and clapping when he was subbed, found that a little strange as i though he played poor.

perch is a good play and not knocking the lad so dont need the perch fans to have a go.

Quite simply Perch has never been nor will be good enough for us, unless Forest wish to remain in obscurity. Get rid and get rid soon.

Perch was very poor in both ties. But he has looked good in alot of games this season also.

He's not a left back. He was playing at left back.

Noone else in the squad would have done any better than him.

That's a lie, Cohen probably would of done a better job. But we'd of missed his presence in the middle.

Played at right back in the first leg and was still bad.

If he cant play in either position then surely he shouldnt of been picked for either positions. Chambers is a more than competant right back who i would of been a lot more confident in.

I think you're the first person to suggest he was anything but outstanding

you being serious?

he has a ok season but i think i agree that he might not be good enough for the next level, sqaud player will be as far as it goes for me, just feel we are signing better players and we will slowy use him less n less as time goes on.

by next level i mean regular promotion bids and even promotion.

Ah yeah, I forgot that you can pretty much judge a player's ability on a couple of incidents in one match.

Similarly, I could say that he was brilliant at right back vs Birmingham in the cup (a better side than Blackpool), so he's obviously brilliant.

Was judging his performance in both matchs not his ability or lack of it.

But i do apologise for having an opinion that differs to yours as its obviously not acceptable is it?

He's just not good enough. I admire his efforts and his willingness to put in a shift in any position but he can't keep position, he's awful in possession, he doesn't support the midfield enough. Hopefully we bring in some quality at LB, so he can go back to being emergency cover.

Noone else in the squad would have done any better than him.

I think anyone in the squad could've done a better job. Gunter, Lynch, Cohen, Chambers, Wilson have all had far better games at LB than Perch recently.

Lets face it, Perch isn't that good.
I've watched the game twice over now, he was all over the facking place!
He was directly at fault for two goals on tuesday.
Was poor on saturday and gave the penalty away.
Ok squad player, nothing else.
Got a feeling BD will know he cannot be trusted after these two games now.

His best game this season was Newcastle away - the team who wanted to buy him in January. Coincidence?

I've always stuck up for Perch, but I don't think he's good enough for the direction we're headed. He's adequate cover, but no more. I'd have preferred to see Cohen there with Anderson in midfield or Lynch there instead.

I thought we were having a decent debate, but you had to drag out the old "I'm not allowed to have an opinion am I" line.

He gets too much unjustified stick on here. Noone says anything when he puts in a good performance, but everyone's so quick to jump on his back when he has a couple of below par ones. Can't see many people berating Camp for gifting them a goal on Tuesday, but I guess he's the golden boy so we're not allowed to.

If he was given a good run of games in one position that he's familiar with (centre mid, right back), then he'd no doubt put in a series of good performances. Instead he's been constantly switched with Gunter on who plays right back and left back. Now I'm not for one minute suggesting he should get in front of Gunter at right back, or McKenna/Moussi in centre mid, but a player like him is so crucial to the squad.

When people are suggesting we get rid of him based on these two games, it gets a bit ridiculous.

OK - I've missed two games all season, neither of which Perch played in, and based upon my extensive viewing of Perch's performances this season I can seriously say we ought never to consider playing him again! His positional play is diabolical, he ball-watches doesn't concentrate and has been off the pace in almost every game. Yes he played well at Newcastle but that was the exception not the rule.

People around me were standing and applauding on Tuesday, but they were applauding the decision to take him off!

Let’s be brutally honest here, James Perch is a very average league one standard footballer I have watched him over many seasons and apart form the odd game he has always looked very average. He is nothing more than a utility squad player and not a very good one, his passing is dreadful he has no positional sense, he flies into tackles like a headless chicken in fact he offers nothing in a positive sense at all, sure he has passion but that’s not enough unfortunately for Perch he needs to move on, we need him to move on and quickly.

Thanks for your efforts James but time move on buddy:cheers:

You reckon? Personally I think he always does an adequate job for us. :D

Like I say, if he was given a run of games in one position I reckon he'd put in a series of good performances. But he's constantly been switched around the defence and never been allowed to settle.

Then there's the constant moaning and groaning at matches whenever he makes a slightly misplaced pass, noises which wouldn't be made if a more favourable player did it. Can't be good for his confidence knowing that if he doesn't get everything absolutely spot on then he'll be berated by his own fans.

I'm not basing getting rid of him on these two games, its the last couple of seasons games I'm basing it on mate!
He's just not good enough. These two playoff games have just highlighted that.
Yes Camp shouldn't have come for their first goal, but jeez, he's barely made an error all season, and won us many points, thats why he is the "Golden Boy"

I think BD said on the radio prior to the game that he'd "restored" Gunts to right back so as to maximise his attacking ability. Fair enough.
Cohen is the only other option at left back, but with the Moose out and Kenno still not fully fit I don't see what else BD could have done? Chambo perhaps, but Perch isn't a bad player he just had an off day. Apart from a couple of players they all had an off day.
So lay off Perchy, eh :eek:mfg:

I think thats about it, hes a decent utility player. He doesnt excell in any given position. Hes not a bad player, by any stretch, but of course his costly mistakes this season (derby away, most of the goals in the play offs) will be the most talked about.

He made some great challenges in the newcastle game though, but as I said its easier to remember the negatives sadly.

To all those saying James Perch is playing out of position, I beg to differ. He's currently playing in the position where he has been of most use to Forest in his tenure here - Scapegoat.

His ability to take unfair criticism, make him an outstanding performer in this role. Added to his world class skills at shielding other players from any sort of blame being attached to them, his performance really has been excellent.

So it's one rule for one and one for another? Nice. Like I say, the more favourable players don't get mentioned when they make a mistake.

He's always been a good enough squad player for us. I'm not trying to suggest he should be anything more, but there's a reason Newcastle were after him in January, and why we subsequently turned down a bid for him. BD knows how important he is to the club, and rightly so.
