James John McAtee

He looked good, technically very slick

But what I liked was he had a bit more bite than I expected him too, he closed down quickly and got his foot in.
Yes indeed. I was pleasantly surprised by the way he got stuck in immediately. Some lovely skills but they seem to be allied to the confidence and aggression you need to thrive at this level. I think we've got a good one. He'll be a very able alternative to MGW this season and a fine replacement for him when he eventually ascends into the firmament.

Viv Anderson
he seemed to get brought on on the wing, which didn't look right for him, then moved inside when Hutchinson came on and looked a lot better.

I can't quite decide whether he's meant to be the rotation with MGW or Anderson but hopefully the three of them can cover the two roles.

I guess we'll see, but I'm pretty sure we'll be selling MGW next summer and slotting McAtee right in (with hopefully plenty of game time this season to get warmed up for the role).
Yup.

I think this year McAtee will be getting a taste for most attacking roles in midfield as needed this year, and playing the MGW one in lesser games like early domestic cups.

And if he grabs his chance and makes himself top choice in one of them, then good on him.

Great to have some genuine competition at the club in some of these roles now. Even though MGW knows he's still top pick, he now also knows he can't take that for granted either.

While I think we see him more as a winger currently, it's notable Hutchinson has played centrally a lot too. Good to have options...

They can all player everywhere, having the fluidity will be key over the season - we already saw it when he swapped CHO & Ndoye not only solving our defensive weakness but also creating the goal

Ian Storey Moore

First Team Squad
He'll be fine, a great understudy for MGW who I suspect will be off next summer, giving us another sizeable war chest, great planning imop

Walking out of the ground yesterday, there were a couple of blokes blaming McAtee lack of defensive ability for the loss.

Shows how different people read the game.

John Robertson
Though perhaps not quite as notable as the guy in the top right who appears to be phasing out of existence live on TV.

Is it me or does this lad seem to look younger each time you see him? Maybe he’s trying to earn a place in the youth team?

He does look like a boy really, maybe our managers this season have assumed he's on work experience or something hence him never getting picked.

On a similar note I always find it interesting to see just how old players used to look back in the day. Take our very own Terry Hennessey for example. He's 31 apparently in this picture...
