James David Garner

He was excellent tonight, and he's become a much stronger player than I remember too.

Good lad and had nice words for the club, was also excellent. If there was any chance of getting him back I'd snatch it with both hands because he ultimately showed exactly the skills we were lacking.

He had his break through season with us, and he's established him self as a very good PL midfielder since. Maybe he would have ended up in the same position regardless of his loan spell here but it certainly helped put the spotlight on him during a time where United were prepared to let him waste away. Plenty to be thankful for, and he's only ever been treated fairly by our fans

I fail to understand this "it's classy not to celebrate" thing.
Garner was a loan player who did an excellent job for us.
He left us to go back to Man Ure in May 2022.
He has been 3 seasons at Everton.
Why should he not celebrate scoring?

Not celebrating is the new celebrating in a way :D

I wouldn't have begrudged him if he did celebrate properly.

I always thought that if a player didn't want to celebrate after scoring he should just jog back to their half for the restart.

I don't hold with celebrating as expansively (and in such a time wasting way) is a good thing.
But if it is a thing I wouldn't begrudge Garner for celebrating - it was a good goal.

He walks for free in May. Contract talks ongoing? Current it fine so if he’s leaving for a few, albeit a knockdown one, now’s the time. Everton very comfortable now. Not what I expected to be saying 2 months back.

If he is still available on a free come summer, most top half PL teams would take him.

Man Utd would be absolutely mad not to take him back on a free. But they are a bit mad…
