Jacob Murphy

I don't think we'll let Murphy go unless we can get another winger in. Been told today that we are very close to signing a player who we see as being able to cover the entire forwardline, but I think that will open the way for Woltemade to go rather than Murphy.

Haven't seen any solid right wing links for us.
Do you rate him?

I did a couple of years back but honestly most of our fans would probably be happy to see him go at this point. Wasn't great last season (most of our players weren't though) and I don't think he fits into the way the new manager is trying to play.

Not to say he couldn't be good for Forest, we have different styles of play. We're not really whipping the ball in for a target man.

That's the weird thing about this one, we won't be doing that now with the wingback formation, so without wide midfielders I don't see how Murphy fits with us either.

Would the player want the move?

I think the deal can be done if the offer is right, but why swap Newcastles bench for ours? Cos that’s the likely outcome.

Would have to be a longer contract / bigger wages.

Yeah fair point. I don't really see how the deal goes through anyway tbh, we don't really have any backup for Elanga as things stand, and players like Murphy are useful because they're happy being backups.

Don't really see how we replace him without buying someone better than Elanga and making him the backup, which would cost a fortune and would come as a bit of a surprise given that we've had no real rumours in that position.

More of a "10" though isn't he? I think that's seen as a priority position for us as opposed to another winger.

It's possible Fernandez Pardo may be used off the right I suppose which may make way for Murphy, don't know a great deal about him.

£10m bid rejected

I reckon if you'd bid £10m back in July it might have been accepted tbh. As I said a few posts back though, the biggest issue at this stage is that it would leave us with only one right winger with little time to find another one.
Zero incentive to do the deal from Newcastle's perspective. Even if you could get a replacement it would probably cost £20M.
