Its a squad game...

I just read on the beeb's preview of the QPR game

Forest have used 21 players in the league this season - fewer than any other team in the division.

21 players, that must be everyone in the senior squad except Bennet?

Has Smith played?

I think by and large though, we've been quite lucky with injuries.

Just goes to show that Davies has been very intelligent with the way he rotates the squad.

Quite astounding that we've used the least players considering where we are in the league :)

We could run the risk of injuries scuppering us in the remainder of the season though.

I think Tutts is right. Smith has played three times so far this season but all for Cup games.

Bennett is the only one of our players not to kick a competitive ball this season if you exclude the likes of those out on loan.

Why is it such a big deal only using 21? Only 11 can be on the pitch at a time and we don't use all three subs every game, most yes.
18 would have been impressive, in the league, with 10 outfield positions being filled by 17 players.

21s good I think!
= 20 outfield players, so that means (on average) playing every other game with the odd substitute appearance here and there!
Easy life or what!
Just goes to show though that we can't be letting Perch/Mcgugan/Cohen leave (as per the nonsense rumours)

I can remember the likes of Aston Villa winning the league using only 16 players all season.

How Championship clubs can afford to keep squads of 25 and upwards is beyond me.

Smaller active squad - assuming they aren't shit and stay fit - is a good thing, it helps consistency of play and teambuilding.

What we do have more of with our current squad is depth of choice for positions, and a decent quality within that depth.

Which is what Calderwood attempted to achieve last season, but injuries and the general inexperience of the majority of the squad scuppered the plan.
