Is this the Billy Davies effect?

Since BD took over (after the Man City game) we appear to have become more "physical" in our approach.

I ahve left out the Derby cup games.

Fouls given away Fouls won

Charlton 12 13
Plymouth 19 21
Sheff Wed 13 14
Cardiff 25 8
QPR 15 10
B'ham 17 13
Ipswich 15 17
Derby 16 7
Reading 15 11
Preston 7 7
Swansea 18 8

Only Ipswich have conceded more fouls in a match against us since the end of January (three weeks after BD took over). By my reckoning we have also pickes up 24 yellow cards in these 11 games.

Are we trying to kick our way out of trouble?

These are interesting statistics. It could show that we are putting more effort into every tackle we make, some of which we win and some of which we don't.

I don't think we are playing a dirtier game but some of the tackles we've made have been unnecessary and others have been dubious and debateable poor reffing decisions.

However you look at it, we've suffered a number of suspensions due to cumulative yellow card offences so maybe our training should incorporate how to tackle more effectively and fairly.

I think it's the only way we can "compete" in a close fought match, because most other team have a more physical presence... We can't let them out-muscle us, so why not foul them and get organized? It's not cheating, fouls and freekicks are a part of the game. We just have to learn where to foul them, so we stop giving away freekicks in dangerous positions...

We seem to be closing down the opposition a lot more rapidly that before. Inevitably theres going to be a few more fouls because of this....
