Is Billy right?

Would we be better off getting promotion in two or three steps? After yesterday's performance there would appear to be some truth in what he says - we really shouldn't allow a team like Derby to dictate the pattern of a game.

The other bonus of course would be that we get to hammer the bastards again

If it guaranteed promotion next year if we didn't go up this season, and we were also sure about keeping and adding to the current squad, of course. But it doesn't work that way. If we can keep this run of form going (forget about the Derby game), I'm hopefull that this squad with a couple of additions during the summer, proves that they are good enough to, first of all, survive the Prem.. then we'll build from there.

There was bound to be a some doubt, and negativity after losing to Derby... but is it different losing to them when we've already proved that we are a hell of a lot better than them? To me it feels like that anyway. Of course, I was hoping for a win as well... but losing to them last night, it was, well, hardly surprising! Football has always been like that.
Leeds won at United, Reading won against Liverpool, Derby beat us at Pride Park.
f*** it ... :)

I don't know, how many teams do you come across that play like Derby... in the CCC or the Premiership? We didn't play well and they scraped a win against us, barely creating any decent chances even though we weren't very good attacking wise ourselves.

It was just a blip.

To be honest as much as I would have preferred our run being ended by anybody other than Direby, even though we didn't really perform this does not necessarily mean that we haven't got it in us to go up this was a Derby and as everybody very well knows, form goes out the window in these games. IMO we played the wrong tactics going into this game, it was always going to be very difficult and we should have approached it in the same manner we approached West Brom away, with the 4-5-1 formation.

If we could keep the team that we have and build on it and be guaranteed a good season with possibility to go up next season then I would rather take that route, but I do think that if we don't make it up this season then it could be a while before we do, think of the teams that will be coming down from the Prem with their parachute payments (except for Portsmouth of course coz they're f**ked) and also look at Ipswich, they were always up there or there abouts, making the play offs many years in a row and now look where they are. we should just take what we are given and put our faith in Billy that he has learnt his lesson with Direby. Besides am sure that with the team we have, and maybe a few additions we could do well... they are still young and getting better with every season, plus I don't think we'd be one of those route 1 teams, we'd play football, and attractive football at that. Look at how well Birmingham have been doing this season, and right after they'd beaten Everton we managed to get a draw against them even though we dominated them most of the game (and over the course of 2 legs) I think that even though the teams in the Prem will have the experience of being there, we still also have experience of fighting relegation, as we still have a lot of players from last season; and we have quality and belief along with a great fan base which can take us far. The likes of Wigan, Hull, Bolton (maybe if we learn how to play against Direby-like teams) Wolves, Burnley (whichever of those doesn't get relegated this season) and whoever else would come up with us would have more of a chance of going down than us =D ... i don't know, maybe i am just being extremely optimistic or maybe naive. But I am not going to start disbelieving in the team just yet, 18 games to go, so that's a possible 54pts... we get 35+ of those and we have a fantastic chance of going up.

what you think?

The next two days and then the next three weeks will decide our season. We'll find out if it was the temporary blip we think it is or wether we have a bigger problem when we see how everyone reacts to yesterday.

In the meantime, no need for doom and gloom. In terms of what everyone was really asking for this season in terms of league position (and points) - we're about 2 months ahead of schedule still! :)

Derby hassled us and it worked in much the same way as Reading did in the second half the other week.

In the Prem we would be fighting with teams like Stoke, Hull, Bolton, etc who can all play a similar sort of game.

Personally I see a win at the Sheep Dip to be the green light that says that we have the character to survive in the Prem.

I actually think, despite yesterday, that we're going to find out if we're good enough for the Premiership during the next 12 months......

The problem with the doing it in steps is that if we don't go up this season will we lose some of our best players?, how do we replace them?, for how much? and are they going to be as good?.
Your also largely starting again dependent on who leaves and on that basis how can you plan your second step accurately.
I say just accept where you finish and if it means getting promoted then so be it. After all it is what you aspire to do at the start of the season. One important thing though, don't get the two words mixed up as they sound quite similar-Accept not expect promotion. That's where the difference lies.

Billy wants to take us up this season and if you don't believe me ask him away from reporters and cameras.

You can't pick and choose when you go up.

We'll either be good enough this season or we won't.

You can't guarantee promotion this season, next season, the season after or in 10 seasons.

All I will say is when we do go up it will be because we are good enough to go up.

Go up, spend little, come down and be in a better position.

You can't pick and choose when you do well, look at Liverpool last year and where they are this season. Also Reading, in the playoffs last year and where they are now,

Derby was a bad day at the office, but its one loss in 20 games, we've shown we can beat anyone in this league,

If we're still in the same position by the end of the season, should have no doubts about grabbing promotion!

Both Forest and us fans have got to show a little character. Stop being so down. The sheep are bragging but deep down they know the truth - they just happened to get us on an off day. If our empire was, as some of you seem to be hinting, made of paper, then many more sides would have found us out by now. The table never lies - if as I expect, Direby finish in the last 4 and we gain automatic promotion, it will say far more than yesterday's match did.

Let's show some spine!

It's exactly as Billy said all along. Three important points lost, but no more than that. 19 games unbeaten didn't make us Brazil and one defeat doesn't make us sh1te. The real test will be the character that we can show now it's not all milk and honey....and when I say 'we' I mean the team AND the fans. I didn't go to PP yesterday but I hope and expect that the Forest fans gave the players a fantastic ovation despite the disappointment of defeat.

We're second in the league, we've proved that we're better than Newcastle and WBA and we're not looking over our shoulders at a relegation scrap. Let's be grateful that we have the best players, the best manager and the biggest feelgood factor that we've had in years. Dust down, buck up and move on. Trust in Billy to get us organised and motivated to deal with the 'in yer face' approach that everyone's going to employ against us now.

And now you're gonna believe us........we're gonna win the league!!

We can afford to lose about 3 or 4 more until the end of the season and still go up. If I had to pencil in 4 possible defeats then one of them would of been yesterday. It's all about how we bounce back. If we hit a run of bad form now then yes we could be f**ked. Beat Wednesday and it's looking rosey again.

In an ideal world, keeping this group of players together at this level for another season and allowing them to develop would probably give us a better chance of a succesful Premiership campaign.

However we all know this world is a million miles from being ideal, you cannot pick when you go up. If we don't go up there is no guarantee we will be able to replicate a promotion challenge next season and we could look back and rue what was our big chance like we did in 2003.

Yesterdays result might just do us a big favour, its all about how you react to a defeat and hopefully go on an unbeaten run again and Billy will know that. The team will be hurting after losing to the scum, dont forget theres a few Nottingham lads there and a handful of Billys players that he knows care about the club.
Alex Ferguson is the master at getting the team to react and Billy is in the same mould imo. And dont forget didnt city do the double over utd the same year utd won the league and euro cup?????
One loss doesnt mean the team is bad it just makes us stronger (hopefully)

CMON YOU MIGHTY REDS!!!!!!!!

  spot on phooey

we've played some fab football recently but its not as good as the top prem teams play and yesterday we were out-battled by a side that cant play champagne football. Where would we get points from if we got promoted?
