Interesting Billy Davies Interview

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but the following link is for a very recent interview with Billy Davies, back home in Scotland.

Interesting that he cites the left back position on Tuesday night as a problem, which was pretty obvious to be fair and he talks frankly about the transfer window. Worryingly he is less than dismissive of the possibility of managing Celtic. He say's all the right things to remain professional in his commitment to Forest, but the last section of the interview sounds a little worrying.

I think it sounds like a perfectly sensible way of speaking. Certainly it's the way I conduct conversations with headhunters who call me periodically... you'd be a fool to slam doors before exploring what might be behind them in any walk of life, it's no different for Billy.

He also mentions that in Scotland they underplay their achievements. Not him, for a start.

I agree, it strikes me that Billy is never anything less than the comsumate professional, and I abhore sensationised journalism, but there's something about the last part of that interview that is concerning.

I hope he is using it as leverage, to strenghten his position in terms of transfer decisions at Forest.

Hey George! :excited:

Where's Scooby?

I don't think Billy is any different from anyone else in that he will look after himself and his family as a priority and that means keeping his options open.

He will be as disappointed as we all are that we didn't make promotion this season and I believe he will want to see us succeed next season. However, should he be denied the means to do so then he will not wish to risk his reputation and he will probably look for a move and negotiate a deal to leave before his contract comes to an end.

I have never considered Billy Davies as a long term appointment at Forest only I'm not really sure why that is.

Whatever does happen, I will always hold him in high regard for what he has already achieved. I do, however, hope that there's much much more to come.

That last bit I completely agree with. If he were to move on I'm sure the majority of our fans will wish him well, unlike the Sheep and PNE who have nothing for bitterness for him.

he put his point over very well, if i was in his position i'd want assurance that the same lack of support from the board won't happen again.

Billy this, Billy that, Billy sniffed in a manner that would hint that he doesn't like swans , Billy hasn't ever declared that he didn't kill JFK, Billy wasn't on the moon landings so it must be fake etc etc

Just a song for Billy this morning

I'm finding this all very uncomfortable and feel he lacks respect for the club with some of the stuff he is coming out with.

They all need to sit down NOW and sort this out. Then he can either commit or go. Either way it needs to be sorted as this dragging on could really hurt us.

Davies is right, why should he not listen to other jobs? Like most people he is career minded and if a suitable job came up that furthered his career of course he would take it. Just like anyone else would on this forum.

Plus let's face it the way Doughty refused to back him in January was disgusting and forced him to manage with one hand tied behind his back so considering the lack of ambition at Forest there's not much reason to stay loyal to us.

The way I see it , reading between the lines after listening to that interview I would hazard a guess that Billy Davies is waiting for an official approach from Celtic to help him make his mind up, it sounds like to me he wants the job and Forest will be in his own words “Steady as you go”

It wouldn't bother me too much if he left or stayed i just want this sorting out so the rebuild for next season can progress.

Im aware this aint going to be popular but im going to say it anyway, Billys attitude throughout the whole season has not been great and he has only avoided criticism from the fans due to our league postion, but now that we have failed with promotion people are begining to see him for who he is. examples of this include he moans at the AP for not bringing players in they brought good players in for brilliant prices eg Anderson camp. He's made a point of wining about how they did in january but we had three clear targets as far as I understand it in Moses Pratley and Shorey. Swansea made it very clear that without stupid money we were not going to get pratley even though pratley wanted to come and the other 2 chose premiership teams. theres not a lot the AP can do about that unless we sign others that are mediocore but then people will criticisize them for not signing anyone of quality. Then there is Majewski they got him for 1mill which is a steal the deal may have took a long time to conclude but as long as it was concluded before the end of the season it didn't really matter, the price we signed him for was a steal, and we refused to be held to ransom. now comes the playoffs I feel tactically Davies has been out done by Holloway and lots of other managers all season. this is shown by Holloway has beaten us 4 times this season, apart from the first one they have fully deserved it, Perch has been found wanting in 3 of the matches, once they found him out as a weak link we should have put someone else there for the other matches. Also in the season in general its all well and good before christmas when our season was going well, home and away, but after Christmas he did not have the tactics or the knowldege to end our away form which has been a major problem. His attitude after the playoff match at the City Ground was awful, everyone was dissapointed so what did he do? insted of saying everyones dissapointed but its been a really succesful season which it has and we will rebuild for next season, insted he wen't and made everyone worry about his future which is not proffesional. HE eilther needs to come out and say he has every intention of staying or go. We have a good young squad and will have a good season next year with some additions with or without Davies. Finally comparing Davieses attitude to Hodgesons after the Europa cup final where he said they were dissapointed but he would be there next year if Davies had said that everyone would have gone home and once they had got over the dissapointment of the match would have been happy with the season and lookng forward to next eason now they are worried about weather davies will be here.

We all knew he doesn't tow the party line and we all knew he wasn't 'yes' man so why do we have these fans whom I bet have sung his name and his praises all season criticising him for something we all knew he would do.

Billy unlike he predecessors will not allow the rug pulled from beneath him and his position undermined, he has a burning ambition to get this club promoted. He has ambitions to manage in the premiership with Forest and show the twits at Derby why they were wrong to sack him. He has a burning ambition to take Forest to higher heights rather than sit around and take a wage awaiting the sack.

Now for all you people who keep criticising him for sticking to his own beliefs and speaking up against a regime that has damaged this club over so many years, please just see the bigger picture. All those managers who failed to land targets, only to see us slump and be relegated, Billy does not want this, will not accept this and will fight tooth and nail to avoid a repeat. It wasn't his fault we didn't sign anyone in January, it was our dithering that has failed to land us players both January and in the summer.

This club needs to be decisive on all transfer matters, we fumble along hoping to get a cheaper deal and it has worked in the past but it doesn't work for everyone. Just once in a while you need to match the managers ambitions.

If you want to see Nottingham Forest in the Premiership, back Billy 100% regardless of his public outbursts, rest assured he has the clubs interests at heart. Remember Mark Arthur will not get this club promoted and neither will David Pleat...

Agree with that, just a shame about the lack of paragraphs. Just to add, Davies generally throughout his career has been mardy and focused on the short-term. Here he is doing exactly the same, grabbing at success with the first-team but dismantling the infrastructure with the Reserves and Academy and leaving us with an unstable base for the future. Yet he will still, WHEN he goes, talk about the brilliant job he did irrespective of whether he leaves the club in complete ruin whether in financial terms or in terms of the dismantlement of the Academy.

Personally, I say if he wants to leave then let him. He has been a good manager but he is completely unloveable. He is a Machievellian poison dwarf, all about himself, and unsurprisingly he has opened his big mouth again at a time when it is entirely inappropriate.

I have backed Billy Davies this season in support the club as being anti Davies during the season would have a detrimental effect, but particularly his attitude after the game after blackpool was disgraceful it had now useful effect just annoying the fans. If he shows his loyalty to the club and stops his winging when there isn't anything really to winge about I will stop saying this when it isnt true

Put yourself in Billy's position, you know full well you need players and your board fail to get them in, you miss out on promotion because of this? .. If I were in that position i'd be fighting for the good of Forest much like Billy is now!

You make sure points well and on the whole I have to agree, but like I said in an earlier post, I’m not bothered if he stays or goes he has done a good job and a bad job all at the same time, while our home form was exceptional our away form was diabolical which has lead me to question his motivation and tactical deficiencies away from home, it’s almost like it was born out of a complete lack of respect for the board and a stubbornness to want to prove them wrong because of what happened in January.

All I want for now is for this mess to be sorted one way or another and for Davies or whoever it will be to start making progress and rebuilding the team and its confidence in readiness for next season and also, I hope that certain players will be moved on in an attempt to get rid of that old school mentality of just sitting back under pressure for which we have been subject to far to often the last few seasons, lets get some real steel in their with no round pegs in square holes.

Here’s to next season whoever is in charge!

Yet again people slating the transfer situation.

Maybe if Billy and the supporters want us to buy players like everyone else, then we should implement a strategy like everyone else, where you have to sell to buy and raise your own funds. We have a squad that cost about £11m to build so there should be plenty of capital there to be raised...

People slate Doughty for not putting in enough, when he puts in more than anyone else, then they slate him for having a bit of protection, to make sure we're bringing in players that can benefit NFFC in the long term.

Whereas Billy scuttles off back to Scotland and yet again we're treated to more uncertainty and speculation as he links himself to all manner of jobs. Yet we're supposed to back him unconditionally?

It's typical of Billy Davies that he constantly blames others. All this continuing moaning about the January window is just bollocks. The best backed manager in the division complaining that he wasnt backed enough! Ha Ha. Well he was seriously backed in January when he was at Derby, wasted that transfer kitty on mediocre players and then Derby limped to the end of the season in a similar fashion to us this season. What was his excuse then?

Our form has been mid-table since January and we accrued only three more points than Derby over that time. Only a fool could believe that poor form is entirely due to not signing a player or two in Jan. Nothing to do with the manager's tactics, team selections or constant whinging and sulking in public then....
I hope he stays but I am really tired of his blame blame 'I never make any mistakes' spoilt brat approach. The club has been progressing well over the past 3-4 years and whether he stays or goes I hope that ND sticks to his guns and keeps the plan which has been working so well in place. Billy will be gone in a year or two anyway.

I'm still backing Billy. He's been fantastic here, and if he does go, I will wish him well.

A lot of you are taking what he tells the fish+chip wrappers a little bit too seriously.
