Im sure this is wrong.

BILLY Davies today offered a fresh warning over the need for Nottingham Forest to add new signings in January, cautioning: "We do not want to find ourselves short at the end of the season."

The Reds lifted themselves into third place in the table, level on points with second-placed West Brom, following a 3-0 win over Davies' former club Preston.

The win also extended Forest's unbeaten run to 14 games – their best run of form in more than 30 years, since the days of Brian Clough.
Davies said he was very proud of his side's recent performance levels – but warned that the squad still needs bolstering between now and the end of the campaign.

"It is important that we do not leave ourselves open in April," said Davies. "That is most important.

"It is vital that we do not go into the last five or six games of the season in a strong position – and then find ourselves falling short through a lack of cover.

"We are in a fortunate position at the minute with injuries, but it would only take four or five more injuries to ruin our strong position.

"We are not trying to mend something that isn't broken. That is not the aim. What we have to do is cast our eyes forward to March and April and the situation we might find ourselves in then.

"Having a big squad and new players might suddenly seem very, very important when we get to that stage."

Forest will continue their efforts to land Spurs defender Gareth Bale in January, while they are also likely to make a bid to land on-loan Nicky Shorey permanently.

Davies is also keen to sign a midfielder and a central defender. The Reds currently seem to have strength in depth, but that is because Julian Bennett and Guy Moussi are their only injury problems.

And the boss wants Forest to be in a strong position in May.

"We can be very proud of the situation. We are proud of the run and the way we are going about it. We are proud of our spirit and everything else that goes with it," said Davies.

"But I want the accolades to be coming in at the end of the season, not at the middle of it. That is what we have to keep reminding ourselves.

"We have got to enjoy good moments in football, because you know there might be difficult spells to come.

"The consistency in this side has been there for everyone to see. That is the pleasing factor for me. We have gone about our business very well."

I believe Sky said it was the best run for 15 years which seems a lot more likely

I'm sure that for several years we boasted the longest unbeaten run in the Premiership.

What? Surely not... since Arsenal took our 42 game unbeaten record after that!

Sky said 25 games unbeaten under Frank Clark.

I think there was a run under David Platt where we managed 1 game unbeaten.

i might be wrong but was it not the year we finished 3rd in the premier league i seem to remember us and Newcastle going around 14 - 15 games unbeaten. Probably around 1993 - 1996

But Billy, if we are only aiming for a mid-table finish, what will it matter if we slide from 9th to 13th after a few injuries in the last few games? (big rolling eyes smiley)

If our good form continues, it is going to be extremely interesting to see if/when the change in message from Davies comes, because everyone can see the momentum coupled with the playing staff (and apparent funds for extra purchases) we currently have puts us in with a really good shout for promotion this season, however unlikely that was back in August.

I would like to see, after a couple of decent signings in the window and a 3-0 trouncing of Derby, for Davies to issue a "screw it, we are now officially going for it" battle cry. :D

think the 42 only counts with top flight games

Correct.
The record was 42 unbeaten in what was then called the first division. At some point during that run we lost to West Brom in the FA Cup.

Just checked Bridport red's site. It was 25 games. I think I've mixed it up with the 42 game run under Clough. I was only about 9 at the time but it seemed longer than 25 games.

Frank Clark held the Premiership record of 25 unbeaten.
i wonder what our club record for unbeaten away is? Under BC it must have been at least 21.

currently it is 14 unbeaten away

last season we acheived 8. (somehow!)
we've beaten 12 unbeaten away from 94-95 (in the 25 match unbeaten run)

we did 12 unbeaten away in 1994 as well

21 unbeaten away in 3rd december 1977 to late 1978

i expect that is the longest...

The 21 will be a double-record as it was in the top flight... so if we crack that this season (big ask!) then it will still remain as our unbeaten run in the top flight, so something for Billy to work towards next season 8)

And the season after - only 19 away games a season in the Poncy League.

The 25 unbeaten run under Clark was spread over two seasons so this is our longest unbeaten run in a single season for around 30 years 8)

The one under Clark came to a very abrupt end at Blackburn when they beat us 7-0, trust Forest to end such an excellent run with such a crushing defeat!

Likewise we used to have the highest away premier league win with our 7-1 at Sheef Weds, we handed that to Manure by kindly losing 8-1 at home to them. Lose one (good) record and gain another (bad) record in the same day.

Yeah, there was a time when we held both the top flight's longest unbeaten run, and the top flight's longest winless run! Just one of the many reasons why Forest is more than just a football club.

I know I'm assuming a lot from the games at Watford and Coventry, but its that West Brom away fixture that really looks like trying to upset these records..
