.......on the basis that Billy wants a squad of 22 players that he can call upon / have competition for places.

Clearly as Pemberton has now departed and the suggestion that the younger lads can go out on long term deals, that only leaves 14 players remaining with any first team experience.

I daresay one or two of those wont be fancied and may depart. I think come the turn of the month there will have to be some serious activity going on.

18 Osbourne - no idea if Billy wants him or not
23 Blackstock - expect him to either get a Prem club or a team like Newcastle who would want a Champ quality striker to replace the Owens / Martins of this world. doubt he will come.
26 Thornhill - may come into the 1st team, but think Billy would like him to be loaned out for experience really so didnt count him.


Clearly, Adebola will be one of them, but that only makes 15........but that leaves another 7 really to get to where he wants us to be.

Here hoping that the transfer drought will soon be over. Get off the beach Billy and wipe the dust off the transfer committee!

I see where you're coming from but it looks a little drastic.

Besides which, it was club PR, which invariably is bullshit.

However, I'd be delighted if anywhere between 5 and 8 quality players came in to beef up the first team. For some reason I can't put my finger on I have a sneaky feeling that this summer is going to see Forest (ok - Mr Doughty) spend an awful lot of money, so I actually expect this rather than hope it!

The thing that gives me faith is the fact that BD and ND are not feeling pressure about the lack of activity. Their seems to be an air of arrogance by the fact they are not feeling the need to divulge info like we are trying so so hard to get new blood etc... They are clearly not in a state of panic and know the expectations of the fans are high by stories in media stating we have 10 million to spend etc.

Its not in our nature as Forest fans to be patient but I actually believe that we're all going to be pleasantly surprised with developments over the next month.

It is bloody painful waiting mind.

Whilst my assumption is based on no evidence whatsoever (ie. I can't be bothered to find any), I'm sure I heard that his recovery was going well and he would be ready for the new season.

If he is indeed out til Xmas, that's a major issue. Unless Heath is going to step forward and make a claim...

Buying and selling. People hoping to sell their players to Forest need the money to buy new replacements. They cannot buy until they have sold.

This is why things will not really start happening until we get into July, as people come back from holidays and the countdown to the new season begins. Then cash is king and with time running out clubs are not holding out for an extra 500K, they sell and get the cash and buy new themselves too.

Unless something goes wrong with his recovery I'd have thought he'll be back by September at the latest. As a professional he'll have been doing 3-4 hours of rehab a day since his operation which would have been early Feb I would have thought. At that rate he could easily report back for pre-season at the same time as everyone else.

Without a significant increase in quality players we will be relegated, this season promises to be very tough and there is no reason why we can't be up there with the strongest teams in the division if Davies adds the players I mentioned or their equivilents. The only thing holding us back is the boards reluctance to pay relatively large transfer fees.

I agree. I think we could have nipped in before Real and got Ronaldo. Perhaps Tevez is up for a challenge? For a mere £25m he's worth it even if he just sits on the bench. And if he's worth £25m then Mills must be worth £10m or so, certainly according to that chap who owns doncaster he is anyway, so I don't know what the board are playing at; just throw him the cash before Man City get wind and take him.

i don't, £2million for a championship defender is relatively a large transfer fee, Burnley gained promotion after spending less than £2m last summer so in our league that is a relatively large fee....

Of course, its' one thing to bid £2m for a player and another thing entirely actually paying £2m for a player - but there is no reason not to believe (at the moment) that we mean business this time around.
