Igor Jesus Maciel da Cruz of BRAZIL

He's exactly the player I saw at the club world cup. I commented on here at the time my huge concern was that he won't score enough goals because he pulled wide and very deep too often and wasn't that quick. Some "south American expert" Tim Vickery claimed he is liked Drogba. I laughed at that at the time too because he's nothing like Drogba in any way, shape or form.

Unfortunately those concerns have been shown here too.
Agree on this and another poster re him being a no.10.

He’d be a much better option to cover for MGW than McAtee (or others).

Solid enough in Europe though.

He had a bloody good game and scored a superb goal.

What is there not to love about him?

He deserves every goal he scores because he gets no service at all, that was a fantastic goal today - it was a nothing ball into the box & he made it something.

I don't think it is fair when people get on his back about his goal record, he is not wasteful when he gets the ball in dangerous areas.

100%

The fact he often spends most of the game physically battling multiple premier league defenders completely isolated might be a clue as to why he snatches at some chances when they rarely come his way.

Because of his battling qualities it’s easy to forget he is new to the league, new to the country and the 286 managers he has had since joining.

The lazy thing to do is look at his goal scoring record but I can’t imagine how f**ked we’d have been without him in Woods absence

I suppose the relevant criticism there is that he isn't in those areas enough, which for a striker he should be. We'd lose the link up play, but then, how much do we build from out wide anyway? No reason for him to not hold his line more really.

it’s a joke though. We want someone that can run the line completely isolated but also be a poacher the box.

I dread to think the pelters he’d get standing between the posts for most of the game

We have to balance the need to lead the line with the link up play. Really Morgan should be doing a lot of the stuff Jesus is.

I think he has scored 9 goals (should be 10) in 29 appearances in all competitions this season. I know that this was against supposedly weaker opposition (although we lost a few of these) but he certainly knows where the net is. Let the commentators talk about “only his second goal in the premier league", I am happy for them to underestimate him.

I think Dyche system puts too much emphasis on the striker, and it takes away opportunities for other attackers to make better movements ahead of the ball. That's cost us a lot recently, ball gets passed back instead of forward and we turn it over eventually. I don't blame Igor Jesus for it at all, he's been great. He hasn't scored enough because the overall movement ahead of play has been poor, from everyone except him. I've missed a few matches recently including today due to work but in the games I have seen recently this is a recurring issue and it needs sorting.

I love Jesus! Seriously, he's probably my favourite current squad member. The workload he gets through every single game is incredible, and although he must be terribly frustrated at the meager opportunities his teammates give him to score, he still puts in a tremendous shift every game, defending from the front and spearheading our attack virtually alone. I'm so delighted he scored today, and that there was nothing questionable or VAR-ish about it, Just exemplary control and technique against a good defender and keeper. I hope he bangs in a bagful for us now.
