If you were the manager......

You, Billy Davies, the one and only Billy Davies, has circa £5m in transfer funds to spend on players of your choice to improve the squad for next season. You can raise this limit by selling on players from the current squad.

Using a bit of common sense to determine how much players are worth, please state who you would sign, how much they would cost and how they would fit into the starting eleven for next season.

I'll go first.... Decided against using loans for now...

In:
Dexter Blackstock - £2m
Chris Gunter - £2m
Jack Hobbs - £800k (or Sean O'Hanlon for slightly less)
Nicky Bailey - £200k
Stephen Pearson - Nominal
Lee Croft - Free

Out:
Kelvin Wilson - £300k
James Perch - £300k
Julian Bennett - £200k
Arron Davies - Nominal
Emile Sinclair - Free
Ian Breckin - Free

Line up:

Buggery, didn't know that, make it O'Hanlon then!

should keep perch, wilson and bennet

6 in, 6 out (+ 5 loans), no left back, 1 keeper and absolutely no squad depth at all?

Priority number one

sign dexter blackstock, chris gunter, lee camp, paul anderson.

then a class defender, someone who can put his foot on the ball and pass it out.....

also a left back is urgently required.

im sorry but bennet and lynch are just not good enough.

then an addition to the central of midfield would be a bonus

i think all the players you are planning on releasing are good enough as backup at least - breck's gone and sinclair probably wont ever make the grade here but the others can all do a job and we need a squad building not dismantling - so if it were me I would be looking to bring the loanees in as permanent - then add to the squad with proven talent - I think Billy is talking about 2 players for every position and encouraging competition - and that is the way iI would do it :

in:

Blackstock 2m
Gunter 2m
Camp 200k
Croft free
Centerback 1m
Anderson Loan (or permanent )

i realise i have already broken your transfer budget but hopefully ND will be allowing us a budget nearer the 20m reported earlier in the week than the 5m - it is the time to invest for the future and I would love to see Billy get propper backing this closed season.

In
Blackstock 2m
Gunter 1.5m
Camp 200k
Anderson 1.5m

Out
Chambers 250k
Davies Loan
Wilson 300-400k
Brecks Coching staff!

Does anyone think we could get Camp for 200k? Seriously?

If we could, I probably would - even though I see no problem with Smith being first choice, we definitely need to give him credible competition to keep him on his toes.

Camp for £200k would be good value.

For the £800k/£1m type price tag that others have mentioned, we could get better for that.

I left us a little short on defence, but I'd still let the ones I listed leave as I don't think they have the required quality to start. Like I said, I hadn't considered loans and would make this a priority to bolster defence. Working within a budget remember....

I also have no problem of only having one keeper. Smith is good enough despite the homosexuality toward Camp on this forum. He hasn't been injured in the three seasons with us.

The squad isn't going to miraculously go from paper thin as it is now to two quality players for every position like BD wants with only five million.

Edit: Also, three of the players out haven't started for us in ages - one is crap, one is devoid of confidence and one is average and injured. Add onto that Brecks is leaving anyway and it's hardly like I was getting rid of four first team players!

i really dont see why we should get rid of any players.

arron davies and sinclair maybe and thats it really.

chambers and wilson are good backup centre backs

Bennett out? Allways thought he was a good lb

QPR want 1m+ for Camp

Who I'll sign:
Camp - £1m
Blackstock - £2m
Gunter - Loan (option to buy)
Anderson £1.5m
Mark Beevers - £1.5
Lee Croft - Free
Lynch - (only under 500k)

Out:
Thornhill - loan
McCleary - loan
Moloney - loan
Heath - loan
Davies - 100k
Wilson - 350k
Perch - 500k

You can't say that without suggesting the ins and outs yourself!

Edit: And my football manager record outweighs anything Alex Fergurson has achieved thankyouverymuch! ;)

I still think having no recognised left back on the books is suicide and having your best RB, one who's made a massive impact whilst on loan, playing out of position is equally bizarre. By my reckoning you'd have just enough to cover your matchday squad.

Disagree completely.

I don't see the point in getting rid of Perch, Wilson or Bennett, especially if you're not going to replace them. They're all young and in their first proper season at this level, yeah they might not have been brilliant this year but I'd suggest that playing under Davies and in a better team they'll all become useful players at this level.

Rob Jones will be in, as will Lynch and Blackstock. Croft from Norwich would be a welcome addition for free. Christopher Killen is also a player I would look at. Very good strike rate at clubs he has been at and an outstanding international strike rate. 6ft so a decent height for our Billy. Not sure Celtic would be willing to sell but would be worth a punt on loan. Thankfully he didn't have a real chance at Norwich through Injury.

I will leave it to King Billy though, I think it is best.....

SAF step aside we have a new kid on the block....... ;D

You sure you're not Calderwood? You've bought a centreback who can play right back and put him in at left back!

Oh, I understand people wanting Camp - I can see that, but £1m? Grossly overrated at that.

Randy Bumgardener

AKA Randy Bumgardener
Blackstock - 2m
Lynch - 200k
Gunter - 1.5m
McSheffrey - 6 month loan with possibility of 750k buy out in the Jan transfer window
Camp - 600k

A good CM ! I can't help think we need more cover in that area !

No chance we'd get McSheffrey for anything less than £2m guys.
