Do you think we could survive, or at least compete, in the premiership?

Obviously I am not assuming we are going to get promoted. But if we did, I have seen lots of people saying they would actually rather we didn't because we are not ready. I think this is a stupid attitude to have, but anyway, just wondering how you think we would fare. Would Doughty give us the backing we would need? Or at least spend the 30 million or whatever you get for promotion?

This current team is an OKish Championship team. Its a long way off being a good championship team.

Maybe January can change that, who knows?

BUt we're way off being able to sustain the premier league. We would not be able to survive on a performances like the 1st against newcastle, which is probably the best we've played so far but you have to give the toon much of the credit for that pefoamce as they were feeble and badly set out.

Currently, I suspect that we would be in a similar position to the L1>CCC promotion/struggle debacle, because, in reality we were nothing better than an OKish League 1 team.

No doubt Doughty would back us.

Anybody who says otherwise us dissalusioned.

Doughty would back us to a sensible level. Surely if you get an extra £30m for being in the prem you should sensibly spend an amount on players and wages that would be less that £25m (£20m if i had my way). Then you have strengthened sensibly and if you go straight back down you haven't got to get rid of players and still have the chance to go up again and do the same thing. If you don't go back up before the end of the original purchases contracts then you have still benefited financially.

How clubs misspend their money is beyond me.

I would have no doubt that ND would back us. However, the most important thing in going up is how the team plays together. That seems to be more important than the sum of its parts. You only have to see how Stoke pull it off and Hull in the first half of last season. If it was only about financial muscle then I would say our chances are slim. It's clear to me that BD is building a team with that spirit and togetherness I haven't seen in a long time.
I would also say that there is probably more chance of us staying up once there than getting up this season.

I actually think we'd do ok.

with the exception of McKenna, Dele, and Earnie our entire squad is young and improving. This unit will be a better group next season, and the season after.

I think they could hold their own in the Premiership, IF a few players were brought in who had been there and done it a few times in the Premiership.

However, I think another season in the Championship would see us promoted as a much stronger unit.

I'm just glad that we're not far off the benchmark for safety in the league. As much as promotion fights sound fun, the first hurdle has to be ensuring we don't slip into relegation. Once that's crossed, we can start to look upwards.

The nucleus is certainly there. But we need additions as anyone can see to stay there. I can't help but think that Billy's neutralisation of stronger sides would be a massive factor in staying up. Winning by the odd goal etc !

The only downpoint is we will be reminded that the 'former european champions are back, every 5 bloody seconds by the pundits. Although, on reflection it's not too bad ;D

With 20 million + to spend (if we offload a couple) I would like to see 1 classy LB, 1 CB with experience and pedigree, 1 left sided wing wizard and 1 formidable striker in the 7mill category. That side with the likes of Moose, Tys, Cohen, McGoldrick on the bench would be competitive against anyone.
Anyway...Time to wake up now ::)

So McKenna has been brought in to get us out of this league. Who would you like to see as a Prem central midfielder brought in to keep us there?

If we went up last year I would of said Jonathan Greening. We wouldn't beable to get much better than that. Lets see how the Moose grows game by game

Current side would have no chance, with huge investment and the right players then we would stay up in the prem.

We would need 3 defenders, a left winger, and a proven Prem striker (wishful thinking) to compete at all. Our current team would get pissed on.

So Doughty would have to spend a good £15-£20m.

I'd agree with the figure that most people are quoting.

To stay up, we'd need to spend upwards of £15m and smash through our current wage ceiling.

We'd need three defenders, three midfielders and at least one Premiership quality striker - perhaps someone like Carlos Vela on loan for a season.

Of the players we have, I think Camp, Morgan, Gunter, McKenna, McGugan, Majewski, Anderson and Blackstock could definitely cut it, but other than that, I'm unsure.

The squad would have to increase in size, that's for sure.

There are some highly promising young players at the club and this bodes well for the future.

However, if we were to be promoted this season we would need massive investment in several areas to even think about survival, not just Premiership players, but damn good Premiership players.

I have no doubts that Nigel Doughty would make the necessary funds availiable.

Whether we could get said players? :dunno:

I said to missis the other day that if we where promoted I would love us to go and grab dawson/jennas/ and reid back with the world cup being this year it would also be a ideal time to go grab ourselfs a few players that have impressed in the tournement

Just thought of this question while watching Sky Sports News...

Assuming we'd been promoted to the Premier League...

Ledley King's contract at Spurs runs out at the end of the season, and if it wasn't renewed and he found himself as a free agent in the summer, would you want Forest to make an offer to sign him, knowing that he's probably only be able to play 20-30 games of the season and would probably earn around 25-35k per week, or would you want to pay £2m+ for other Premiership quality defenders who could play 30+ and earn a bit less?

I would get King.

For the games he plays, he is class.
