Woany clearly had his best days before Platt arrived and was sadly no longer a force when we got relegated in 1999.
I think it might have been the season before Platt came from watching that forest player video where Woan didn't play much because he was injured, i.e. the one we were relegated again. He only made 2 sub appearances in 1999 and he did say that he wasn't the same player after he'd had the operation. Probably another reason why Bassett was shafted really as that was then Cooper, and Woan, PvH and Campbell from the attacking players who was no longer really available.

Went to his first game at Blackburn, they stuffed us - the bus to Blackburn on a school night as a 15yr old with no parents... I'm not sure thats still legal

I think Bohinen scored directly from corners twice in one season. Some player he was. I was gutted when we sold him to Blackburn.
He also crashed one against the post at home to QPR and we scored from the melee that ensued!

I remember Woany curling in beauty with the outside of his left foot to round off a comprehensive win at Elland Road. Think it was on Easter Monday. He was class.

End of our long unbeaten run, adding to my hate of going to Blackburn. It wasn't quite his first game but he did score twice as he and Shearer tore us apart.

If you didn't get back until a school night it definitely wasn't legal šŸ˜‚

I’m bowing to everyone else’s collective recollection. I was convinced Woany had scored direct from a corner.

Was it a Saturday match?? I just remember it being dark for the entire game!
The 7-0 was a Saturday afternoon match in November

I liked his goal against Man City deep into injury time which rescued a point in that great season when we finished 3rd. It looked like abit of a fluke with his right foot (or shin!) but it was an important one.

Really good article in Telegraph today on the behind the scenes changes since Dyche, Woan, and Stone came in.

Sports psychologist brought in; massive focus on nutrition and sports science; and massive effort in creating a good spirit with players and staff with bonding sessions occurring. All staff taken to event at Paul Smith shop in Nottingham.

Woan is the main man who takes most of the coaching and Woan and Stone have set up special workshops with the attacking midfielders/wingers/strikers . Woan has been trying to improve Omari Hutchinson.

Best bit is the complete love for the club shines through and Percy says:

ā€œThis feels like the dream job for Dyche, and his two trusted assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone, who both represented Forest with distinction in the 1990s. Yet before exploring how Dyche is sparking Forest’s season into life, Woan recalls the events of a nailbiting October afternoon before their return.

ā€œWe were sitting at Starbucks across the road for 2½ hours while the gaffer was negotiating,ā€ Woan says. ā€œWe were praying for it to happen. This has always been the one job we wanted. I’d have been so gutted if it had fallen through. It was probably our last chance to have a go at it.

ā€œWhen we got told the deal was done, I was doing wheelspins out of the car park.

For Dyche and his staff, this feels different to most other jobs.

ā€œIt’s a special place,ā€ Woan says. ā€œWe’re all Forest people and fans, and have got a deep care for this club.

ā€œThe fans will know that we’ll look after it. That brings added pressure because we’re so desperate to succeed, but we’re loving every minute of it.ā€

I watched a clip of the journalist Henry Winter last week (may have been from Talk Sport?) and he was talking about Dyche and his time at Burnley, and how everyone was so hung up on the 'plucky little Burnley' story that they completely ignored what a great job Dyche was actually doing and that if you went into the club and saw what he had brought in and what went on behind the scenes it was massively impressive and better that a lot of so called top clubs at that time.

Proof positive that it doesn't matter if you're from Gateshead, Heswall, Kettering...or the Congo...if Forest is in your heart, you're one of our own.
I loved the story about Steve Stone when around 15 at Newcastle. He’d been approached by Forest and asked his dad for advice.

Dad: it’s Brian Clough, he’s a legend, you’ve got to go.

Ian Woan loves Forest: the love in the my Forest story video for the 150th club anniversary shone through.

I was thinking when I went behind the scenes at Burnley (whilst doing the '92') whether Dyche and his team would want to do Forest.

That seems well and truly answered now!

Just look at Sam Allardyce, he did similar at Bolton but because it's 'Big Sam' people choose to ignore it and just think 442 and long balls.
