Please forgive me as im am only posting here for research purposes and am not a Forest fan.

But thought this might be a good place for help

Was wondering where the term Red Dogs came from?

Does it have roots based in some sort story or is it just a nickname that someone came up with and has been adopted??

It's Baggio

John Robertson
It's a nickname that the Derby fans gave us, probably in response to our 'Sheep' jibes.

I have no idea where it comes from and I don't in any way find it offensive, I mean how cool would a Red Dog be?

I'm not entirely sure, but the sheep always tend to call us that, so i'm guessing it could be them who made it up.

Either way its offensive one bit!

Well i had wondered this to start with but then, as you stated, thought, well its hardly an insult, then after a quick search on google found that it had been used by some Forest fans in various forms (theres even a band named Red Dogs who use the Forest logo)

Cheers anywho

You'll get some people being weird, but stick around.

We have a Leeds fan, a Bristol City fan, and an Aston Villa fan who all post occasionally, so be nice and we'll be nice back. :)

It as more than likely a response to us saying they violate sheep in bad ways which the RSPCA need telling about, and maybe the Police :-*

But stick around :) Like others have said be nice and we'll be nice back. Doesn't matter who you support as long as you don't change allegiances every few years.

Welcome mate. Stick around for a well balanced (well, kind of) view of footy ! However, any free grot will bring you much further into the depths of the forum !

I'm pretty sure I first heard 'red dogs' from Les-dar fans, but could be wrong. As others have said, it's not really offensive, then again, I imagine Dirty fans feel largely the same about the term 'sheepshagger' lol

But yes, welcome aboard - better a United fan in Derby than a Dirty fan in Manchester! :)

Its better than their other effort of "tree shagger" which has to be the most laughable "insulting" nickname I've had as a Forest fan.  "Tree hugger" I could understand but "tree shagger"???  I didn't think that existed outside of the original "Evil Dead" film!

By the way welcome to LTLF, fans of all types are welcome for friendly banter (even Derby fans).
