How rich are we?

compared to the rest of the championship teams?

Excluding parachute payments and focusing on ownerships and investments.

Considering we spent the most money on players than any other team in the summer, I'm guessing were pretty wealthy.

About £240million. Only (!) £30mil of that is liquid, though, roughly speaking.

I know that when we were last relegated from the Championship we were the second biggest spenders in the league, behind Ipswich.

That said, we'd raised a lot of money off the Dawson and Reid sale. He's okay, is Nige, I'm happy with him at the helm. I think he does have the club's interests at heart.

I think our current 'debt' to the chairman is £42m, I'm assuming he wants to make the club pay for itself, in terms of him not having to keep adding to that every year, but will make money available for necessary transfers and other funding.

We are so rich that we are still struggling to attract any players in this transfer window even though the squad is so thin.

Yep. As a business, Forest have quite a large amount of debt, but this is all to Doughty. It's a bit of a cycle and similar to what Chelski and in future Man City. The fact is that Doughty clearly wants this club to do well, and I think I am right in saying he is a Forest fan and from the area. I can't see him all of a sudden f*****g off and leaving us with massive debts etc.

So yeah, the club is as wealthy as the amount of money Nigel is prepared to put into it for transfers. He's said there is no budget for transfers but that basically means he won't make say £5m available to spend on whoever, he'd rather spend what is necessary, whether it be £500k or £4m on a single player.

Says who? ???

Billy has made it perfectly clear he didn't intend on rushing into signings as he wanted to assess the squad first. He's been in charge less than a month.

No pleasing some.

There's debt and debt. If you have a massive turnover, you can borrow a huge amount and still keep on top of the interest payments. Re Man Utd, the USA etc. Chelsea is slightly different because they have a much smaller turnover than Man U but have help from a rich man. However, I'd heard that Chelsea owed £85 million when Abramovich took over and they still owe that £85 million (in effect). The owner seems to have kept that one hanging over Chelsea's head. I wonder why???!!! I understood that Doughty acted as guarantor for bank loans etc, but I may be wrong. I doubt that the money was given as out and out gifts! However, I'm still pleased we have him although he does seem to struggle when it comes to picking managers (until now?).

I believe chelsea are the most debtiest club in the world. But, like us, it's all owed to the owner. I think they're also running with a massive annual loss, unlike Man U who are very profitable.

For what it's worth, I'm very happy with ND as chairman. He is a proper fan and is not about to bugger off and transfer his money to Leeds or something. Despite all the shit he gets on here for "loaning" money to the club I really doubt he expects to ever get that money back. Despite no set transfer budget he has proven himself willing to spend a lot of money on the right players, he just wants to make sure it isn't wasted like it has been in the past. I also think he has enough money to support the club when we reach the premiership, which is fairly important. Lots of clubs, ie derby, simply don't have the backing to survive in the prem.

this is what ive heard aswell hes just managing the debt which maybe shows he doesnt give a sh*t bout them if he sold up now they would definately still have the debt, this is why im pleased wit ND and arent that fussed bout us having a stupidly rich owner who basically wants to show their wealth like at man city, IMO ND does have the clubs interests at heart and will make money available if n when needed which to me is a great way 2 b running a club like ours

Manchester United and Liverpool, are all massively mortgaged to Investment banks. The owners raised the money to purchase the shares to own the club, by borrowing money against future income.

Chelsea have now joined this group as Abramovic, since their success raised capital against the club's future to take a great deal of his original Investment out. Manchester City's finances are covered by the owners who raised the purchase price either through private means and funding, rather than recognised commercial outlets, as the others have.

This is fine and dandy until loans are due and money is tight, Leeds Utd were allowed to borrow in the same manner and their colapse was spectacular, if they had managed to gain a Champions league spot, they would have survived..........it was that tight.

Liverpool at the moment are walking a financial tightrope, this is why the new ground had been put on hold. Until the club can raise more money through gate receipts and match day revenues, they cannot afford to expand, without increased revenue from the previously mentioned sources, they cannot pay back their debts. It is a brilliant catch 22 situation, which has been postponed until the summer, their loans have been extended until the end of the season now :(, but they are in serious trouble.

Forest were not purchased as an Investment opportunity, they were purchased by an extremely wealthy fan who backs them with his own funds. This is why no external Investment is welcomed by ND. Forest are not prepared to publish any figures what so ever on money available for transfers. They do have to provide a balance sheet though, this shows Forest are in a healthy position, regarding debt.

The arguments about if the money ND has introduced is a loan or not, is not I emphasise a money making scheme for ND, as all sensable money would agree, it is done in this way to protect his Investment, against any future sale or him loosing control of the club,( Very Doubtful Scenario ) for what ever reason.

Forest are as wealthy as ND wants them to be, but only under his tight control

Nah, I was just saying that I believe that we will become a Premier League side very soon. And rushing things is not the way to go! :)
I don't think there's anything a "normal fan" can do, to shorten the time it takes to develop a good, consistant and mature enough squad to compete on the top level!
Patience is the key, the only way is up! :)
