how damaging has deadline been

how damaging do you think the lack of loan signings will be to our promotion chances?

I personally think this has stuffed our chance of automatic up, and I think we are a injury and suspension away from serious problems within the play offs, I just cant see how we have failed to add numbers to a squad that is paper thin as it is and sitting on the verge of a 60 million pound pay day.

also anyone else a little worried that the celtic job is now vacant? could billy be tempted after not being backed once again

also just to throw this one in Ive been thinking of for a while has calderwood actually caused this with his small squad idea, has his idea come back to huant us as we havent been in a possition to make the squad bigger.

Our chances of automatic were already stuffed. I still fancy us in the playoffs. The other teams wont want to play us and Billy has been there before.

I think losing six on the bounce stuffed our chances of automatic. We're 8 points behind for christ sake, signing a left back isn't going to magic those 8 points back. Maybe if we signed someone in January, but that's a different argument.

I think we'll be alright. McKenna might make it back for play-offs - if we get him back our chances improve significantly.

I think the lack of backing has been absoloutly poor. The board should have bought in one or two permanant signings in janueary to make the starting 11 stronger, and then looked to the loan market to strengthen in depth EARLY. What a waste of a good position.

I just think a few loan signings could of helped fatigue, swansea rested 2 players the other day pratley being one, fester have brought players in, we just havent got the luxury of resting anyone there will be no break between end of the season and play offs and the final is closer, if we go extra time in semis fatigue could cost us

When we mathematically secure our play-off place, which could be in the next few games then we can give some our fringe players more of a go to rest some of our key players.

could this effect our momentum though, i.e rest key players fringe players have a shocker loose 3-4 nill in a couple of games confidence dips. wouldnt quality cover have been better

Which is the conunudrum I guess.

We have to make do with what we have and having fatigued players going into the play-offs will not bode well.

yea at the same time tho, there's a different mentality at this club now, where we don't go out and sign rubbish, couldnt care less players at the last minute, under pressure to do some sort of deal, just for the sake of it. Even though we all feel we have been desperate for a left back, if the right players are not available, I'd rather us have no-one than someone the manager didn't really want anyway. It's about long term stability and the right acquisitions.

They are plenty strong enough when we play at home!

Our bench always looks stronger than the oppositions.

Yeah and Swansea got hammered 5-1 and Leics are still 9 points behind us. We are doing fine and no one can guarantee that extra players would have improved our results. We have more of a chance of resting players in the final few games than any of our rivals, who will probably still be needing points to qualify for the playoffs.

sorry for this in advance but......................................

I think it proves that this season "Were (NOT) Serious About Promotion"

Same old, same old. It's alright saying we should bring in 2 or 3 players... but just who are those 2 or 3 players we're meant to bring in?

David Pleat has got it spot on. We've tried to bring in good quality players but they have gone to a bigger club or aren't available, especially at this stage of the season when everybody else has to cover for injuries and suspensions as well.

We are/were serious about promotion. BD spun that boring old line about not being ready yet. It's what you do once you get to the Prem that counts. Still, the lack of signings gives the AP knockers a chance to sound off. The teams who signed players at the last minute have merely picked up players who would not have been good enough for us.

Sorry but at the momment we have 4 fit defenders and none of them are left backs. One injury or suspension and were f**ked. I dont advocate signing people purely for the sake of it but this was different this was bringing someone in on loan!

no point in signing someone who isn't good enough anyway...

Who said they wouldn't be good enough? we,ll never know now will we!
At the end of the day it's been a fantastic season how ever , i do find it difficilt to understand why we continue to struggle to bring anyone in considering the injuries to Perch, McKenna etc, you telling me there is know out their better than an injured Perch or a fit perch for that matter, what ever the difficulties i still feel let down again as i'm sure most of you do, but what can we do about it, it's out of our hands......we move on!

Can imagine this lot turning up outside David Pleat's office over the next couple of days :D

Not too much now but the lack of January activity stopped us kicking on for second place when we had the momentum.

We had no chance of automatic even before any potential loan deals but I am note sure it will have a massive impact in the play-offs. However, we may regret not getting cover for Kenna if he does not return before the play offs.

Who exactly did you expect us to sign?
Is there some Premier team with a reserve squad full of gobsmacking leftbacks?
No, I thought not. We did brilliantly getting Shorey in, then circumstances caused him to leave - e.g. possible world cup place.
If we do not go up automatically, it is because we are not good enough.
Sir Billy has been there before.
Remember where we were this time last season?

lets be honest we have had all season to sort the left back problem ou and failed, if teams wont lend us there left backs then you have to ask why? are we aiming to high? do players not want to come?.

gunter at left back created 2 problems against palace he couldnt attack well down the left and looked uncomfortable on the ball, it wasnt untill the sending off in the second half that we had a notable attack down right. playing him at left back takes away a massive threat for us on the right hand side of the pitch, it worked against a team 3rd from bottom but cant see it working against better opposition.

forgive me for being negative but I just have a bad feeling about the next load of fixtures, not saying that newcastle of cardiff might play dirty knowing we are short on players and actualy rough us up a bit in the hope of injuring a few key players.

Billy said in January he DOES NOT WANT LOANS.

Did you all forget that ?

Billy took Boyd to free up Cohen to cover central MF.

Why should he want other loans now when he said in January he does NOT WANT LOANS.

Gunter LB / Perch or Chambers RB - and thats the way it is.

if we continue to play gunter at left back and loose his attacking ability down the right then I wouldn't bother booking train tickets for the 22nd

How forgetful some of you people are.............. We've spent 11 million over two seasons, we nearly got relegated last season and now we're talking about promotion like its been taken away from us by the A.P.

Can some of you just calm the f*** down??? Look at some of the nightmares other teams are enduring in a really dark period in football, There are teams becoming extinct and more that are barely surviving.

I am all for ambition and going forward, but Christ lads, one step at a time. Please dont jump out of a window if we dont win the premiership in 5 years.

Well.....no matter what, it's time for us all to support the players we have. Let's face it they're (Shorey aside) the ones that got us to where we are in the table and they are the ones that have to end the season for us. And it's not going to be a dull mid table finish for us after all..... bring it on....:)
