Doing a fantastic job of playing things down before they start.

personally very pleased with what he has said. after feeling very annoyed at what MA had said almost feels like billy has got one back for us!
 
I've cancelled my Forest Player account then, seeing as this season's a write-off. Might as well do something useful with my Saturday afternoons. Once the club is as serious about promotion as I am, I'll reinvest.
 
Billy certainly is the master of the media. Can't disagree though.
Think the worst part of the interview for Forest fans is where he talks about how he would like to know if the agenda for this season has changed?
 
What I will say is that Billy talks about 'steady progression' (which suggests building over a 3/4/5 year period) but then he also wants everything yesterday ('5 stellar signings'). He is somewhat hypocritical and increasingly i believe, although I always knew he was, in it for himself. He is a good manager but clearly his ambitions and demands of what is required to get a team promoted, aren't always matched by what the clubs he manages can deliver. Not necessarily out of a lack of desire, but maybe financial constraints or otherwise. He wanted more and more at derby and look how that ended. In fact, without the investment we should find out how good / committed a manager he is or isn't, as he won't be relying solely on that, and he will have to work and get the best out of what he's got. I'm not sure whether he's that type of manager though and i can only see this ending one way. Whilst we're all disappointed and angry about the lack of signings, and yes Doughty himself did say PL in the next season or two (so has the agenda changed??) I feel his demands are and have been a little bit O.T.T.
 
It's the kind of interview you give when you don't intend being in a job much longer.
 
The board have drawn up a short list of Brian Little, Roy Evans, Joe Kinnear and David Platt to succeed Davies.
 
good on him for being honest, but it would be demoralising for a player to read that which is why I think the board will not be happy.

Judging by the tone of his statements it appears unlikely that it was cleared by the Club for public consumption - in which case he appears to have thrown down the gauntlet.
As I have said before everyone would have put their cards on the table when BD was interviewed and commitments would have been agreed - if ND has now revised his position on further investment (as is his right) then he should have told BD well in advance and the fans afterwards.
It does seem like there are serious communication problems at NFFC all around.

He already did that last season. Would you spend another year in an job where you weren't developing your own skills or growing whatever you were working on somehow?

In business, in sport and in life you either move forwards or fall backwards, there is no standing still. Davies understands that.

The upshot though, is that both doughty and arthur have said publicly that davies was brought to the club with the sole aim of getting promotion. So its no surprise really that hes so demanding when it comes to going for promotion.

I can certainly appreciate why hes so annoyed, as if hes being told his job is to get promotion and that theres money available (as both doughty and arthur have also said)- hes no doubt baffled by why no players have come into the club.

I hope he rises to the challenge, but I can see a scenario of him getting the club in a fantastic position and then as soon as an offer comes in from another club- him walking out.

Ah well, it wouldnt be forest under doughty if the manager wasnt on the verge of losing his job :D

True, but i don't think he has any intention of staying, the way he talks about his own squad is hardly going to instil confidence. What Davies has to learn is that no club has a money tree. More like a money pit.

It's got to the point that one side has to go give way, and i don't think it will be the club.His position is becoming untenable imo. I imagine none of the players would be happy with what he has said.

But why wouldnt they?

This is his actual quote:

"I am giving an opinion, as a manager that, with the group of players we have got at the minute – and they are a fantastic group – we are not anywhere near what is required to win promotion.
"It may be the same group of players, but this group overachieved last season.
"And, also, since January, this group of players have shown that there has been a clear decline in performances."

He doesnt actually say anything negative about the players, just that the squad as whole, as it stands (size,depth and ability) isnt strong enough to the get promotion. He doesnt question the talent or ability of the players, but hes specifically talking about the squad as a whole (or group as he puts it)

I dont think its actually as bad as people percieve, particuarly when you have had the likes of camp,earnshaw and ando in the press saying the squad needs new signings to give it a boost.

I dunno, people are in my opinion maybe taking an inference from it that isnt there.

I agree with you about him and the club heirarchy colliding though, and they'll probably not take his words well.
 
Billy kept on saying promotion wasn't on the agenda last season in the midst of our amazing unbeaten run and the players were not good enough, it didn't effect them then so why would it now? I don't think our uninspiring start to the season has anything to do with Billy's conduct with the local media. Most of them probably don't even listen to his interviews anyway.

Anyway what he says is accurate, there is nowhere near the strength of depth needed in the squad over 46 games to sustain a promotion challenge.
