Home Support

This is the first time that I have had the opportunity to log onto LTLF since Tuesdays game, and something has been bugging me since then. Why was our home support so critical during the game? Especially during the second half? I sit in the Trent End Upper, and there was plenty of criticism, and moaning coming from up there. It p*sses me right off!

Yes they were down to 10 men

but
1) Our squad was thread bare due to injuries meaning that 12 of the 17-man squad were under the age of 22
2) Despite their away form being a bit ropey, Wednesday are still a good Championship side
3) Since coming in Billy has done a fantastic job and our record prior to Tuesday (including the Man City Game) is P4 W3 D1 L0 F8 A1

Yet alot of our so called supporters start moaning because the odd pass goes a stray, or miss time a header. This can only have one effect on the players and that is a negative one!

Fortunately the boys managed to grab the all important winner and we all went home happy, but I think a few of 18,000 or so who turned up need to look at themselves in the mirror and decide if they truly are supporters

and before I get lots of replies that say we've paid our money so we are entitled to our opinion, yes you are entitled to your opinion but voice it (ideally at home) but at least at the end of the game, otherwise I would rather you didn't turn up!

In BDs interview on the radio after the game he was basically saying the same thing, but in a more round about way.

For the Derby game I know it will be different i.e. full house, playing the scum = cracking atmosphere, but its the QPR game as well where we all need to get behind them.

Thoughts?

Basically, it's because a lot of our fans are ill-informed reactionary buffoons, unfortunately.

We have, in our defence, as a collective been conditioned to expect mediocrity at best - so mistakes are almost anticipated before they happen, prompting the groans. That's not really an excuse, but if we are to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of rubbishness, then it will take time for the supporters to 'catch up' and modify their expectations accordingly.

Or something.

But yeah, we do have some arseholes in the stands.

I agree the moaning in upper trent is unbelievable! And most of the comments you hear make you want to cry they're so stupid! Typified by my mate who after moaning all bloody game turned to me and said... "i wish our fans would get behind the team!"

What always creases me up, is the one's who feel they have to shout advice to the players fron the stands, during the first half when Wednesday were enjoying the bulk of the game and it was all hands to the pumps....................somewhere behind me is a nutter screaming at Nathon Tyson to get back upfield, your a forward not a defender

er... count me out of that one please. I cant' say I have heard any racist stuff up there in t3. Not sure where in the upper trent you are sitting. But nobends??, for some reason this season we seem to have aquired a few more than normal. Some guy's sit behind us who's knowledge of football and ongoing criticism of certain players gets right on my man breasts.

im in upper trent and its no way near as bad as upper bridgford.

couple of years ago uriah rennie was reffin and a 40 yr old women shouted after a bad mistake 'get back to the f***ing jungle!'

never been back up there since, its chavtastic.

Theres a nob head just behind BDs dugout that always wears a bright orange top.

Always stands up every few minutes with his dad to moan at BD.

Crazy.

I'm in T4 and i've never heard any racism. The last time i did was about 5 seasons ago at leicester away, which was pretty bad. Fair bit of homophobia but only when a likely target is playing! This last season a load of complete numptys have moved in behind us, never sat there before, and shout complete rubbish all the way through the game... irritating!

Trent End Upper sitter here. Racist? Nobend? Reactionary arsehole? Ill-informed buffoon?

I think the problem is crystallising simply in that we (the Royal 'we' in this case) the under-earning, over-paying supporters get annoyed at a performance from the over-paid people on the pitch which can, at many times, appear to be decidedly amateurish.

We, the fan, takes the view "I am better at my job than you are at yours, at the moment, but you're earning being paid 10, 20, 50 100 times as much as me."

If that doesn't justify annoyance then what does? "Boooo"!

You may notice that when the overpaid on the ptch do it right, and the ball goes in the appropriate goal, the view of the fan changes and becomes "You are at least as good at your job as I am at mine" "Yaay!!!!!!!!"

Yes. And I wasn't allowed to ignore each of the face-to-face customers and get on with the job.
No steward escort for me either...

Yes.

Did you like it ? Make you want to do better ?

Or just think " Who is he/she to give me abuse for having a bad day ? "

Sometimes I think some of the fans go over the top and some really don't know much about football.

It made me think:
"I f***ed up a thing which I shouldn't.
All these customers have paid to see the fruits of my labour.
I don't like to be shouted at at work.
If I don't f*** up next time, I won't get shouted at"

I was also reminded of the adage "The customer is always right".

I dont mind people having a bit of a go when things are going badly... thats every supporters right. Whether it is helpful or not is another matter.
However, we are top of the form tables at the moment so i expected a bit of a happier atmosphere on Tuesday. To put it bluntly, it wasnt. Yes the team started poorly, but we should have been getting behind them not going back to the cc times of moaning constantly about every little misplaced pass or missed tackle.
If the players are getting castigated by the crowd every slightly dodgy twenty minutes they have then we'll soon slip back into the old form, where all the players looked scared to even be on the pitch.
Its our job as fans to do everything we can to help our team.
End of.

Fair enough. So the shouting at was needed then.

The point im making is that some fans tend to get carried away and go off on a tantrum when its not neccesary, Alright we all make mistakes sometimes. However when its needed then it can be very affective. If they can be professional enough and get on with it.

When I saw Layer Cake at your cinema it had no sound.

I watched it on DVD a few months later, and decided that Cineworld (or UGC or whatever it was) were doing their customers a favour.

I must admit that I probably groan just as loudly as the majority do which probably doesn't help.

I do try and even this out with encouragement though and I don't think I've ever booed the team.

We try!! :D

I'm not one who boos, don't get me wrong, but I can fully appreciate why people do. A lot of the fans at the CG on a matchday have grwon up with better fare than they are regularly faced with - they KNOW it can be better, more creative, more positive.

When yet another potentially promising position becomes a pass backwards to the goalie, despite other options presenting themselves they get annoyed.

It's an easy game from the stands...

I watched a knock off DVD version of Layer Cake, bought from a Chinese dude in Croydon.

It was good but it cut off about 10 minutes from the end and I've never found out what happened.
Sometimes it keeps me up at night. The injustice of it all...
