Hi, I live in Ipswich. I'm not an Ipswich fan or a Forest fan but I do like Forest and wish them well. I used to watch them in the early 70s (Jim Barron etc.) but can anyone help with a question? Am I right in thinking that Stuart Pearce was manager of Forest in any capacity-full time or caretaker or anything and has anyone heard the story about him fracturing his leg in a typical Pearce tackle in a practice match and was taken to the hospital to have it put in a cast. His assistant was asked to call and tell his wife that he’d been hurt but was o.k. and would be home later than expected. Apparrently, he called Mrs Pearce and said, “Stuart will be a bit late as he’s coming home with a broken leg”. Mrs Pearce is reported to have said, “Oh yes? Whos?” Also there was one which involved picking 11 outfield players in his starting 11 and his wife having to tell him. It will solve a drunken argument and with my winnings in pints will probably start another one! I'm not asking if they are true but only if the storys are out there and I havent imagined them. Thanks. Mickey

The "Broken Leg" joke has been doing the rounds for years. I can't recall Mr. Pearce breaking a leg whilst he was (Caretaker) Manager here?

As Alan says, the second one is true; it's in Psycho's book. Apparently he'd picked his first team, but his wife then pointed out it included three full backs and no goalkeeper!

If I remember from "An Audience With", didn't he break his leg in a challenge for WHam or ManShitty, but try and "walk it off" up to half time thinking it was just bruising?

Was at WHam, he told the physios he would carry on if the leg wasn't broken and it was just severe bruising.

He was caretaker manager for a while after Frank Clark left in 96 I believe.

In fact, I think he won Manager of the Month and player of the month in the same month, or it could have been player a month later or something.

As has been pointed out, in his book he talks about not picking a goalkeeper.

The broken leg sounds a little more difficult to pin down. I don't remember him breaking his leg for us. He broke it at whilst playing for West Ham, I think, and tried to play on. That could be the basis of the story.

I heard 'arry redknapp telling the broken leg story, "It's ok boss - i'll run it off". "No stuart, you've ..... broken .....your.....leg."
An pearce on radio nottingham saying his wife pointed out he'd picked 11 outfield players.
