Hello and questions

I currently work at a publishing company and putting together an idea for a monthly football magazine. However, instead of concentrating on the Champions league or Premiership, this would concentrate on lower league football from the Championship right down to the Blue Square Premiership. I have a couple of questions if anybody would be willing to post some answers.

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest?
2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?
3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?
4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?

Any responses would be very much appreciated.

However, instead of concentrating on the Champions league or Premiership, this would concentrate on lower league football from the Championship right down to the Blue Square Premiership. I have a couple of questions if anybody would be willing to post some answers.

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest? Either from the Official Website (Interviews, news etc) or certain people on this forum
2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football? Definitely. Especially if there was an online version too, maybe a HTML email sent weekly?
3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature? Again, definitely. As long as it focussed on a decent spread of teams and took into account local derby matches that may be coming up (for all teams, not just Forest)
4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag? Decent interviews from players and managers, information that I couldn't just get from the Internet myself. Maybe fan views, interesting facts on other teams etc

Any responses would be very much appreciated.

Hope that helps!

Yea if you want it to succeed you'll defiantly need to try and get 1on1 interviews with players and managers that you can't read elsewhere.

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest?

Local media (Radio and Newspaper), and the internet (which covers the National news outlets, internet forums such as this and the numerous excellent user-generated content sites and blogs scattered around there), and of course my own observations.

2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?

Possibly, although I'd be more inclined to read an online version.

3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?

Probably not, to be honest. Other teams do interest me, but generally only in their relationship to Forest.

4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?

To 'get off the ground' you'd need exclusive content, and perhaps be less 'straight-laced' and more entertaining compared to existing publications. From our own experience of attempting to make money out of printed magazines based solely on Forest you would need to rely on advertising for making cash!!

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest?

Offiical website, this website, newspaper websites

2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?

Definately but only Championship league one and league 2

3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?

Yes as long as the other features were interesting

4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?

Stats, interviews, gossip, just a random thought but maybe a section on players with twitter and what tweets they are writing :)
Any responses would be very much appreciated.

You listened to the Football League Podcast? I listen to that on the bus the odd time, even if Forest aren't on it. Should give you some ideas, they do a good job of making the whole thing interesting.

A nice "f*** the Premiership big time Charlie's" angle ought to help too, plugging local supporters and the things they care about, like Safe Standing being brought back.

official website, random things on forums, reading (but rarely trusting) newspapers

2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?
3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?
a lower league football mag... possibly. however i'd be after some for of significant coverage on my team. not like the Fl show who give forest 10 seconds each show

4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?
i'd be after stuff i couldnt get elsewhere... the kind of interviews that newspapers daren't ask. player interviews, fan views, unique things you dont get elsewhere... like the on the bus

hope this helps in 1 way or another :)

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest?
BBC website,
Forest official site,
Evening Post website,
Forest forums,
other football forums

2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?
Maybe. But I already buy Football League weekly; a weekly paper dedicated to Championship/ L1 / L2 and When Saturday Comes. It depends what your magazine offered that these didn't.

3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?
Yes, but see above.

4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?
All the usual: match reports, previews, interviews with people associated with the game. Stats, dates for the diary, and input from fellow fans.
As much as I like reading about football issues, I also like features on football culture (which is something WSC do quite well

1. Where do you currently get your information on Forest?
BBC, national news outlets, Forest website, fan forums.
2. Would you be interested in buying a monthly mag about the lower league football?
Yes, definitely
3. Would you be interested in a monthly mag if it didn’t cover your team as the main feature?
Yes, so long as it had a variety of indepth and interesting features
4. What information would you want from a monthly footy mag?
I'd like interviews with unsung footballing heroes and footballers/managers that get overlooked by bigger publications. Features on current trends in lower league football, and 'fight the Football Leagues corner' stance. I would have to say, When Saturday Comes is a very good publication, but likes to spend too much of its time in the past (which I respect, but don't have too great an interest in) and big name footballers.
Any responses would be very much appreciated.

Here's my answers.
