If he can stay fit he could be a good player for Earnshaw or Tyson (or both!) to play off of, the price does seem a little steep for a regularly injured player who is over 30 though.

He's played approx. 250 games in 10 years. That is PROPER injury prone.

Well it's down twice in the NEP website so could add some substance to it !

I wonder if this means we have cooled our reported interest in Best?

Or are we getting him as well?

Then we would be talking good business.

Of course, Helgusson fits the club profile for a new signing -
Young, up and coming, Nottingham born.......

As a yardstick...

Notorious Sicknote Darren Anderton has averaged 25.17 games each year in his career.
Helgusson has averaged 25 games each year in his career.

That's actually quite worrying.

Ok a few may not see this as a great capture but he would be exactly what we are looking for. Big strong, no nonsence centre-forward. Would be a perfect foil for Earnie and Tyson !

Helguson has been playing for some big clubs, where he's had to fit in with squad rotation. Like Bolton and Watford.

In light of this worrying information, I now remove my support for this move.  I was foolishly basing my assumptions of his suitability as a signing on the games I have seen him play, not the treatment I have seen him receive, of which it would seem he gets alot of.

It was Bolton where he got injured more than anywhere I think.

At Fulham, it was down to rotation that he didn't play that many games.

I'd still support the move. But, I do agree that £1.5m may be a tad expensive.

but 1.5m for a crock who MIGHT score but is getting on a bit...

If they are giving him away i'd say yeah, try him. commit to 2 seasons wages... but paying for him...

I agree, with Tyson and Earnshaw our strikers are not that big, or that strong. Helguson would add that into our strikeforce and would be excellent working with Earnshaw or Tyson. He is also a seasoned international for Iceland which adds that bit of experience that I feel our squad needs

if colin thinks he'll be good for us then he will be good for us
i don't trust much in colin but his transfers i do

Good player but surely 600k tops for a player of his age / injury record.

The Bolton supporter who sits behind me at work is laughing his head off about it.

I would totally agree.

And let's be realistic here, in the Championship we're going to struggle to buy ANY striker for less that 1.5 million. That's just the way it IS now.

The sensible option would be to pay a very low figure (100k?) up front then make up the rest with add-ons for appearances, goals and promotion to the Premiership...

That clause should save us some money.

Performance/Appearance related clauses would be a good way forward in this case, rather than a one off fee - as long as we don't let the team behind the Stern John sort out the contract!

What sane club would agree to that kind of sale, though?

One that needs to get a wage off it's books so Megson can bring in the players he thinks he needs?

But it's not like Helgusson is a dead weight. He could still do a job. You don't sell a player like that for a low fee, regardless of age.

maybe its a bargaining tool to get best, coventry are interested in him as well.

pinch of salt though, the same website claimed LA Galaxy and England midfielder David Beckham wants to launch a range of healthy eating products, including water.

including water???

People keep saying we should stay well clear but he would be a vast improvement on Grolt

£1.5m on a 31 year old who's recently had a series of long injury lay-offs?

No thanks.
