Harrison Armstrong

I can't get my head round mega-rich individuals who het involved in football because of the profit they hope to make.
Why do peple with more money than they will ever be able to spend want more?

Why do people who are already off their tits keep drinking? Why do people who are already in a monogamous relationship try to f*** around?

Whatever it is in this species that got us to a civilisation and helicopters and vibrating buttplugs and digital watches, also compels us to pursue goals beyond any reasonable point until we eventually destroy ourselves.

It's a simple truism - nobody is greedier than rich people
We went to a wedding in Ireland- we shared a taxi back to our hotel with a 'Millionaire' (horses- so typical Ireland!)

He didn't offer to pay his fair share of the fare.

Next day we're telling the other half's mum.

Her reply: 'Sure, that's why HE'S the millionaire'

My neighbour was an early player in the Portakabin craze. I did a bit of work for him and we had a heartfelt tete a tete to soothe my teenage angst.

I went back home enlightened and shared the revelation my mum that, acording to him "Money isn't everything".
She snorted in her Mancunian way "David would bloody well say that. He's a millionaire."

FSG brought Liverpool for £300m now valued at £5.7b.
They just sold 30% for £1.65b so a massive profit and still own 70% of the club. Maybe there is money to be made? Maybe in a just a few clubs though?
Until the bubble bursts, when fans have finally been milked for every penny

Valuations are tied to risk. The chances of relegation for these big 6 clubs in minuscule & even if it happens, they’ll be back straight away because the financial advantages they have.

All these yank owners care about is de-risking their clubs so the value of it grows. The introduction of PSR has been hugely successful for them which is why they were the people that lobby for it & truly why no football owner wants to get rid of it. A non PSR football world is a riskier one for everyone.

Why the stadium expansion is so important for us, it will de risk us as a club massively.

to be fair to the Everton fans, while yes you're right they presumed Harrison would go to a "top" club they were deeming us a peer club rather than being lesser than them... its nuanced but they aren't that up their own arses. I've got a bit of a soft spot for them as their forum is the most like ours
I've seen loads of post from them deeming us a far lesser club. As I said yesterday they've been in the top flight forever and yet they've still managed to f*ck all in that time whereas even we have managed several semi finals in the last few years.

They're the very definition of meh in the premier league.

The thing that gets you rich is the complete and utter determination above all else to make significant amounts of money. Why would that go away once you hit a certain figure?

Sadly, never going to happen, because there is always another mug to pay 100 quid for a match ticket for their week-long trip to England from (insert random APAC country here).

A bit of an exceptional circumstance as well. The club wasn't worth £300m, not £5.7B, but the previous cvnty owners were forced to sell the club at a much lower price than they should.

Your point still stands by the way, was just making the point of that not all club purchases are the same.

That last bit is probably the single most significant element
Applies in all walks of life tbf as does similar for friends and other contacts. A lot of stuff in general is who you know...

You could say they've played a bit of a blinder, if you assume that they had to sell someone. If they'd sold Ndiaye straight up, fans wouldn't have been happy but now they've generated some goodwill by not selling Armstrong, and have a brazilian international who the fans probably still love lined up as a demo replacement for when Ndiaye actually goes to City.

Not sure about Richarlison on the left but he might've played there before.
I read the first line of your post & assumed you were on a wind up.

I read the rest & I'm still unsure.

Plus a large slice of luck, and having zero issues with shitting all over whoever you need to get ahead. A bit of nepotism never hurt either.

What a sad existence.

Wasn’t commenting on whether that existence is a good one or not, just about what the motivations are to continue to attempt to amass wealth from people like Mariankis etc. Generally, I find, the wealth thing is almost secondary to building successful businesses; they have a hunger to win that dominates all other things, and winning = wealth. Luck does play a part, but I am a firm believer that luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparedness.

Either way, you either have it or you don’t. Of course, not included in this assumption are people who have inherited wealth.
