Harrison Armstrong

Imagine thinking you are getting Jack Grealish and Ola Aina - and ending up with Richarlison and Kenny Tete.

I was going through the tweets under Paul Joyces story about the Armstrong deal (with Ola involved) and it was full of scousers, Everton fans scoffing at the thought of Ola Aina being at their club and Liverpool fans hoping that they would sign Aina after seeing him yesterday and in the past.

Everton fans are a special breed. They've got Kenny Tete for RB now, they don't want him either.

If they need money then the selling of Harrison makes more sense than selling Ndiaye even if it could backfire.

Ndiaye is proven and is up among Everton's best, whereas Harrison is young, not really proven, and, as we've experienced many times in the past, not necessarily going to develop in the way that is hoped for.

Of course if he does and he becomes another Anderson and they've sold him to us they will be pissed. If he doesn't then they will be gloating they've had our metaphorical pants down.

I was reading their forums/Toffee TV last night and it wasn't just about the sale of Armstrong, it was the fact that it was to a "lesser club" like Forest whereas if it had been United or Arsenal they would have "understood".

Pack of clowns.

to be fair to the Everton fans, while yes you're right they presumed Harrison would go to a "top" club they were deeming us a peer club rather than being lesser than them... its nuanced but they aren't that up their own arses. I've got a bit of a soft spot for them as their forum is the most like ours

If you need the money who gives a shit who comes in with it? I would be even more pissed if it was to the "Rich 6" cartel again. Picking off our talent and either ruining them or making massive profits out of them so they can maintain their stranglehold in the Premier League. People are pissed off that Chelsea have "gotten away with it" over Delap, they'd be the same if a "Rich 6" cartel team did the same with Harrison.

Everton have had similar existence in the Premier league to what we've been through in the Championship, the odd flirt with something worth getting excited about, often in danger of relegation but mostly meh going nowhere.

I was about to write something derogatory about them but tbh I understand Everton fan's reaction so can't grumble. They're a good bunch in general.

It’ll be interesting to see how the first half of the season goes for Harrison. Previously I couldn’t think of anything worse than having to sit through watching an Everton game, but at least now I’ll have a reason to occasionally look up from my phone whilst they’re on the telly.

To be fair i do enjoy an hour or two on their forum because they're both completely out of touch and yet hilariously down to earth about their club, i'd certainly have them over their Red brothers who they detest more than anybody which is absolutely fine by me

Sounds about right really, I know we don't really have anyone directly comparable but if we were trying to sell Jair Cunha to Fulham for example it would seem a bit odd, as opposed to if we sold MGW or Murillo to Arsenal.

I understand it from a emotional standpoint from Everton fans, but its mad how their fans think it is a good move for their club, by the other moves that they are being forced to make in order to keep Harrison.

Sometimes you have to accept the hard decisions to overall benefit. We didn’t want to sell Johnson, or Anderson, but it was small pain, overall gain, as it allowed us to grow.

You could say they've played a bit of a blinder, if you assume that they had to sell someone. If they'd sold Ndiaye straight up, fans wouldn't have been happy but now they've generated some goodwill by not selling Armstrong, and have a brazilian international who the fans probably still love lined up as a demo replacement for when Ndiaye actually goes to City.

Not sure about Richarlison on the left but he might've played there before.

By blinder, I assume you mean they were blind when they decided on this set of deals.

I kind of understand that. It cuts deeper if your club is losing players to a rival/lesser club rather than a huge club. We’re a big club but still PL newcomers really. There’s also widespread jealousy of our ambitious owner by our peer clubs.

Be very interesting if the lad has a stinker of a season, or doesn't progress as expected. Will they turn on him then? Say we should have bitten their hands off for £40m.

This. It’s very easy to forget that we are one of the few teams that aren’t being run as a business for profit. We’re a passion project.

Obviously success could lead to future profit, but I can’t really see the big man ever selling us, unless it went really sour for some reason.

To be fair I kind of get it. If our best homegrown talent in years was off to Everton we’d all be the same. Big shame but never felt like it was going to happen really. Well done to the club for continuing to find these opportunities though, and we’ve also managed to weaken a team near us in the table by now forcing them to sell their best player.

I think now it all stems on whether Richarlison wants to go back to Everton, otherwise it all falls through again.

I can't get my head round mega-rich individuals who het involved in football because of the profit they hope to make.
Why do peple with more money than they will ever be able to spend want more?
