Half way through

zigga-zagga

Viv Anderson
Half way through the season and it's a reasonable time to see where we are in comparison to last year.

At this stage last season we had got 3 more points than we have presently but, after this point of the season we managed to pick up only another 5 points from 11 away matches, and three of those came at West Brom. We did however have a great home run - from 12 games we won 11 and drew 1.

Our home form this season so far is exactly the same as last - 2 points per game, and it's away from home that we have struggled.

Surely it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we improve upon our abysmal away form of the second half of last season last season and that would compensate for the fact that our home form is unlikely to match that of last year.

All in all a reasonable scenario and one which COULD end up with us achieving what we all want (or do we?)

Re: Haf way through

We're well placed and, currently, in good form. The squad still looks a little thin in places - full-backs, wingers, so we still need to pray we don't pick up too many injuries or suspensions.

Let's take it one game at a time and see where we end up...

Re: Haf way through

It will be a lot easier to call after two more matches - which, by virtue of the FA Cup, takes us to the end of January. Pompey home and Sheep away are two games that we will be full of hope for, but neither will be easy. By then, we will also know if the Board has backed Billy in the transfer market, as well as what's happened elsewhere transfer-wise.

But bottom line - I was confident we would end up in the automatic promotion spots at this time last year and I was wrong. This time I'm less confident but I hope I'm wrong again!

THREE more matches take us to the end of January - you're forgetting Bristol City on the 25th

Re: Haf way through

To me we seem to be coming good a bit later than last season so the fact that we're actually in pretty much the same position is good I think. Hopefully we will go on a good unbeaten run now and push up into second. The table is very tight down to about 12th.

At the end of this season there will be 6 or 7 teams thinking about what might have been. Right now half the league could argue a good case for promotion come May. I like the way that we have built quietly and that we have not been high profile like we were last season. The games in hand are important and if we get decent results in those then we have the platform to push on. For me the January transfer window is less important in terms of purely signing players, but more for the sense of positivity that we will all take into the coming months.

Keep the faith people - it may be our time.

January will make or break us I imagine. We need at least two wide players, potentially another striker and depending how long Plastique is out for, a left back.

Good additions in these positions will see us challenge for automatics by virtue of no other team being good enough to run away with it. No additions and we'll struggle to finish in the playoffs.

Don Goodman has said some nice things about Forest on SSN just now. We're getting some credit, run for the hills!

Interesting that we have scored exactly the same number of goals, same number of away wins and we have more home points.
Like Rufus I think we seem to coming good later so I'm very optimistic about the rest of the season.

It's all about what happens with January transfers and post-January loans.

We do seem to be coming good and this January for the first time in what seems like ages, we look to be adding bodies to the squad which will hopefully give the whole club a boost.

The Championship is so open this season, anyone putting a good run together could end up in the top two come May.

our league position is seriously distorted by the postponed matches. only when these have been played will we have a truer picture; who knows? we could be genuine automatic chasers, we could be edging the playoffs all season. i am tentatively optimistic that it's the former.
