Betis' old DOF is the guy who left for Olympiacos so I'm in two minds about these links, on the one hand he could be going back for players he knows but on the other hand it's an easy "believable" story to write for those fan led websites. But if it is true you'd expect him to know what acceptable figures for those players are considering he still worked there a few months back

Rodriguez is a proper number 6 but I'm a bit iffy as to whether he'd cut it in the Prem with the pace of things.

Yeah that's the question - no doubting his experience or ability to break things up.

Here's his 'welcome to Barcelona ' highlight reel - looks pretty mobile.

I wonder if he's seen as a Colback/Frueler replacement, in addition to a more progressive CDM?

Same agency as Montiel and Dominguez but I feel like an actual journo (like the Argie guy who broke the other two) would've reported by now it if we were actually in for him. Every link so far has been from Betis fan pages/ websites.

Very highly rated. But of course it has a twist, the Saudis are in for Atletico's Rodrigo De Paul, if they lose him Simeone wants to replace him with.....Guido Rodriguez.

If Simeone has identified him as a player he wants in a defensive midfield role then I'm thinking he must be better than decent and a nasty bastard to boot.

Nobody identifies horrible bastards as well as Simeone, and thats exactly what we need in the middle. The latest rumblings were that L'equipe reported that he had accepted Lyons offer but a Betis journalist just said on Twatter that the De Paul to Saudi collapse now means Forest are back in and Guido has a decision to make. One to keep an eye on at least.

He's a step down from the likes of Sangare and Fofana in terms of progressiveness, but as a midfield destroyer the stats at least suggest there aren't many better.

I'm getting high level Paul McKenna vibes!

Will also add that there's so big a difference between this guy and the types we've been after that we are either changing tack in terms of what we need or are looking to bring this guy in as well as a more progressive CDM. I'm guessing it's the latter: closer out of games.

I think Danilo fits the progressive CDM role if we get this guy in as well.

He did before he came to us - that was what he was targeted by arsenal etc for. I worry about him in the air in that spot though, and his attacking ability has been very good so far... and he looked off it playing deeper Friday so?

It's funny - on his day Mangala should be able to do that well too but I'm not sure he has the discipline and/or physical/mental stamina.

In an ideal world I'd bring two out and out DM's in, one progressive and one like this guy, shift out Frueler, O'Brien and let Chiek take his payday leaving the rest to compete for the more advanced roles. Still, if we could get Danilo firing in a deeper role maybe we don't need to?

Could it be a case of not quite getting the one we needed that had it all and instead opting for Rodriguez as a destroyer and Dominguez as a ball player? Could add a fair amount of balance to either play in a 3 with one of the others likely Yates or like second half against sheff utd as two more natural DMs. Allows Danilo to slip back into a more advanced role especially away from home.

Also a midfield of Rodriguez and Dominguez sounds fantastic. Almost like a Dream Team / Ted Lasso made up team

Could well be - can't wait to see how the squad looks in a couple of weeks. Always the optimist!
