I know some of you disike this site but a good thread by oldjom on the state of our beloved rivals (would paste a link but am a technophobe) well worth a read. I also think theres another link on there to a Derby website where nigel is slating fatboy and his contribution on Saturday

'They have sold the Catering and hospitalty rights which is where the big money can lie for around £10 million for the next 10 yrs they have NO control over any of those areas'

Now we would never ever do that. Ours is second to none.

Hmmmm interesting but i wonder weather many of the things in that article are actually true or not.

Jom does know quite a few people who have 'behind the scenes' connections in football.

He posted similar things on 606 about 6 months ago, warning sheep of the financial mess their club was getting into, and everything he stated then seems to have come true (he stated that there'd be no big signings for them, that they were looking to offload Hulse, Commons and Barnes, etc).

He is usually very reliable, and I'd be worried if I was a Derby fan.

Makes it all the sweeter remembering their goads of 'Forest going down with a fiver in the bank..' last season :)

When I saw they had taken Dickov on loan, I almost felt sorry for them. It smacks of desperation.
I don't dislike Vital, that would be really silly as we support the same team.

I'm just looking forward to the massive fight we are going to have.

Our big fat lads and army boys will pull them to pieces.

Very good article actually ! They like to boast how better their finances are but facts show proof ! And Dickov must be the proof in the poof in the pudding !

That was obviously as untrue as all the sh*te in this article. I mean, bitter and obsessed or what? Read it/write it and feel good and warm inside, but it's as close to the truth as me saying we deserved to win on Saturday :) It's one game and 3 points FFS and tw*ts like that poster are putting us in admin

So when we do you in jan at PP look out for all the forest in ' freefall ' under Billy posts, they will be just as sad

I don't really care whether they're true or not, to be honest :)

I just like remembering the songs despite using paying you (of all people) 2.6m for a striker.

How much have you spent this window? Just the fee for Barker, isn't it? Doesn't smack of an abundance of cash to me!

I'm not saying I'm not concerned tho :) and Hendrie in a swap deal is not a panacea for those concerns either ... this game has come early tho. far too early to be writing any of us off yet...look at the table end of october ..

Most of our finances seem to be going on paying off some of Billy's shambolic signings he made when he was here! :wink:We do appear to be skint, yes, we have money my opinion is that NC does not know how to use it. It's all very good bringing our debt down but the importance and rate at which is it being achieved can be scaled back a little, with some focus on player recruitment instead would be nice.

Our board ( GSE ) have a history in purchasing sports team, building them up through heavy marketing tactics, reducing costs to a minimum so they appear as 'sellable' as possible, thus making a profit. They are businessmen after all and whichever way you spin it, the bottom line is what everyone cares about when it comes down to it. I expect at least one player leaving today, probably Hulse, with Hendrie ( great ) coming in. I wouldn't be surprised if Commons was sold too although if this did happen there would be uproar as no replacements are lined up.

For £1.75m you can have this lad called Arron Davies. He tends to do well against Forest so should appeal to you.

Which is why we have our acquisition panel, which although probably the cause of us missing out on one or two this summer means we won't pay any more then we think the player is worth. We've been down that road and it's our new found prudence that can finally enable us to throw a few quid about the place.

You lot seem to be where we were some years ago.

So league 1 for them next season?

Doubtful, but I'm not holding out any hopes for a top 6 finish! Mid-table is where we are headed, slow but steady growth.

When we played West Ham in the prem a few years ago and got taken apart, losing 5-0, Dean Sturridge said during the 2nd half that the mistakes we made ( by both Billy & the board ) had set the club back 5 years, I agreed then and it seems all the more clearer now.

Can't see Derby getting dragged into relegation worries, to be honest.

Neither can I, I wouldn't want them to either. We'd miss out on all the fun next season.

Not trying to say that the guy is out right lying, but I get the feeling he may well have not fully understood some of the information he's been told.

Re-evaluating the cost of a stadium and increasing it's value by nearly 200% in a recession? Done so against a HFV? I really don't think so.

Firstly, the value of the stadia is not dependant on what league the team play in. It's potential as a revenue stream is, but any actuary will tell you that you can't really value it as such. The value of the physical side of the stadia (land, stands etc) is not theoretical, it is actual. Your house, for example, id not worth three times what you piad for it because your mrs has huge norks.

I think often people look to hear little snippets of things they don't understand and draw a conclusion that they want.

As much as I think Derby may be in trouble, I don't think it's to the extent that this article claims, nor do I think Derby's BM is anything like described.

Oh I don't know. A nice relegation battle and an escape with a point to spare would be nice. :bristolfan:

I don't think anyone would argue that Davies made some shocking signings for Derby, but I'd say most if not all of his additions for us have improved the side and has an eye on the future. Even as a Derby fan you must look at some of our additions and think they could do a job for you. I would have thought that most Derby fans would have taken promotion when he was your manager despite some of the dredge you were left with. By his own admission promotion came too quickly but even so a promotion can't be sniffed at, he wasn't responsible for all of it either - surely Jewell is just as culpable for some of the crap you were left with

I amongst others was sceptical about Davies initial appointment, particularly with some of the stories that were bandied about at the time. This however hasn't been the case with us - he comes across as being a winner which is backed up by his CV. I've been really happy since he's took the helm so scare stories about his days at Preston and Derby don't really concern me anymore. It feels as though Forest fans are more realistic these days and Davies appointment could well be right time, right place and right team, we certainly hope so-although I personally don't think we'll be promoted this season.

I'd say Derby are some way off being close to being a promotion/play off team at the moment and although I can see your points about your board, as an outsider looking in it certainly smacks of a sell off as you don't appear to be making any significant (in monetary terms) investment in your squad. The last time Forest did something similar (selling Dawson and Reid) and replacing with cheap/lesser players (Impey et al) eventually led to a relegation. I'd seriously worry if you got rid of Hulse as your options up front appear to be limited at best.

Its admirable to support your board and the business ethic that is being sold to you eg good to operate a tight ship etc but you could also be having the wool pulled over your eyes (excuse the pun).
