Gonzalo Montiel

I have to say I was expecting him to be better than he was. Maybe the case played a part because it could have distracted him mentally (incidentally, it was completely dismissed last Christmas).

There was absolutely no point playing him when he wasn't better than Aina and Williams who were already our players (see also: Alex Moreno).

I have been singularly unimpressed with most of our loan signings, particularly since regaining our Premier League status.
Moreno had 1 very good game for us (away at Liverpool), but for the rest he was mediocre to poor.
Montiel was poor to really crap.
Of course this is only my humble opinion.

Probably why we loaned them as opposed to buying. I guess technically the only one which was really good (aside from the keepers) was Wood, but then everyone was saying he was shit before this season, and that was clearly a deferred permanent transfer.

I liked Renan Lodi after he got the measure of things here; he was a class act in my opinion and I was disappointed that he chose to move on from here to Marseille. It was interesting seeing him at the CWC for Al-Hilal earlier today.

I thought Keylor Navas was a very good loan signing too.

I'd still have Lodi in the first team now tbh.
I'm not sure how he would compare to the current model of Neco (compared with the one who was there when he was here) and the interesting point with Neco is whether he's improved in general as a full back or whether he's basically a better LB than RB anyway.

I don't think Lodi is better than Aina, but let's also remember we had Aurier at the club then too, as well as loaning Montiel. If we had signed Lodi, we might not have got Aina.

He and Navas were probably the best loan signings we made since promotion though.

Montiel starts for Argentina v Spain.

I think he has just created his own category, he was a World cup finalist and winner before coming to Forest, and since leaving Forest he has went on to start in the next World Cup final.

Its a mad world.

Yet at the same time i'm ashamed he played for us...

Just shows what a an absolute cluster f*** TommyT made of the whole right back situation. If Montiel is good enough to start the final there's not a right back in the top 2 divisions who couldn't do it. Montiel is absolute pony.
