Gonzalo Montiel

Pretty sensible decision this. Wasn't an awful player - even though he had some awful moments. But I don't see the point in forking out the money to make it permanent when he'd be playing second fiddle to a younger option in Neco.

We won a few games with him in the side. He never really settled, I imagine he would have been steady if he was a permanent signing, but very happy we haven't triggered any obligations to buy him.

Said some time ago I wouldn't be surprised to see him back - our option was 10m euros I think, whereas he's around the 2-3m mark now.

Decent enough cover for the right for very little outlay, while Eric (who looked very good for lots of preseason but very much like an 18yr old in one) gets developed.

Suspect Aina is viewed as a left back (currently first choice) so depth added for little outlay for a player that knows the club and the manager appears to trust, despite the odd switch off/lapse.

I thought it didn't end well - after the Sheff Utd game - he had a bust up with Nuno and some of the other players I think

Terrible footballer, I have no idea why we're going back into this.

Yes - but we didn't have any other RB - Williams was injured
Aina and Toffolo left? While I don't doubt things were said over then pen giveaway, I don't remember talk of a huge fall out and threw werw options if that was the case. Nuno used him far more than Coops did so there must be trust there.

Won't be a popular one but I can see why we're doing it.

Seems a strange one if true. Nuno didn’t seem to fancy him and he was inconsistent.

Very odd.

And if nothing else with this guy, I look forward to watching him against Grealish - his angry little Argentinian man with little English spat was a season highlight for me. Hilarious!

Thought he was pretty crap tbh and got turned inside out by most wingers with a bit of pace, and has he still got that dodgy case hanging over him too? Wouldn't be happy with this.
