Goal difference

With it looking like it's going to go to the wire between us and WBA for 2nd place, does anyone else fear their superior goal difference?

Imagine missing out on promotion due to the amount of goals we have scored, it doesn't bear thinking about.

We must give Posh a good spanking in our next home game as I really do think that GD could be the only way to separate the 2 sides at the end of the season

17 goals and 7 GD is really going to be difficult to pull back now especially if we finish equal on points. We can only hope that either they or Newcastle start to slip up a little bit and give us a chance to pull some points away from either of them.

For me Newcastle have gone and will win the league. It's between ourselves and WBA for 2nd place and my gut feeling tells me it's gonna be to be the lottery of The Playoffs for us.

Can't see Newcastle doing anything other than winning it now, we need to put 7 past Peterborough, as I think it will go to GD

More than likely, but we still have to go up there and play them so while still a big ask there not completely out of touch yet.

Still as much as I want automatic, the play offs are far from my expectations for the season so would duly take them if needed. Plus I haven't been to the new Wembley yet :)

one game at a time. Ask again after the Bristol game :)

*Our next 2 games will be crucial , both away , both winnable but with our recent away game blues , will we be able to regain back our momentum lost ?

March fixture for West Brom & Forest will be quite hectic and tough. We'll need some new players to freshen up. I do think it is a 2 horse race for that 2nd automatic placing and we'll both be stumbling over one another to get that spot.

West Brom
9 Mar - Sheff Wed (H)
13 Mar - Blackpool (H)
16 Mar - Swansea (A)
20 Mar - Preston (H)
24 Mar - Coventry (H)
27 Mar - Reading (A)

Nottm Forest
13 Mar - Preston (A)
16 Mar - Barnsley (A)
20 Mar - Peterborough (H)
23 Mar - Palace (H)
29 Mar - Newcastle (A)

Other than Newcastle away, West Brom have the tougher looking fixtures there. Yes our next two games are crucial - two wins and I reckon we will finish the month still in 2nd spot.

I do agree with the OP that goal diff could be the decider at the end of the season. I'd not really considered it but it is like an extra point for West Brom as it stands.

I don't think goal difference is anything to worry about, as least as far as our tussle with West Brom is concerned. Before yesterday their GD was 10 better than ours - now it's down to seven. One more win for us and one more defeat for them could quite conceivably bring the difference in goal difference (?!?!) down to just two or three.

When we finish the season one point ahead of WBA then their goal difference will mean nothing! :smug:
